Netflix will be dropping its fantasy series Locke and Key, which is based on the fantasy graphic novels by Joe Hill, today (Friday January 7). The series will be released with all 10 episodes dropping on the platform in one go. Here’s a look at the filming locations and setting for the series.
Where is Locke and Key set?
Taking its cue from Hill’s comics, Locke and Key sees the action taking place within the primary location of Keyhouse in Massachusetts.
The primary location is a character in itself with things many rooms where the drama takes place.
Locke and Key sees the Locke siblings Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones) and their mother Nina (Darby Stanchfield) moving into the mansion and beginning a new life.
They relocate to their father Rendell’s (Bill Heck) ancestral home after he is murdered in mysterious circumstances.

Keyhouse holds many secrets and it’s not long before the kids realise the mansion is full of keys which unlock different doors.
They realise the keys open doors to other dimensions and fantastical places.
However, the keys – which link the children to their father – can be used as weapons.
Additionally, an evil demon is awakened and is going to be trying to get its hands on the keys.
The children will be trying to crack their father’s murder but face perils along the way as they learn more about his past.
Speaking about creating Locke and Key, Hill said: “I had this one idea for a horror story about a house that would almost be alive and it would be full of these enchanted keys.”
He continued: “Locke and Key had had a very long path to screen. The first issue came out in 2008 and almost from the begging it had a very passionate fan base.”
Before Netflix, the show had both a FOX and Hulu pilot.
Where is Locke and Key filmed?
Locke and Key was filmed last year between February and July.
The show was filmed on location in Toronto, Canada in a number of locations.
According to IMDb, locations included Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and Ontario as well as Toronto.
Keyhouse was filmed at the Cinespace Film Studios with the mansion created on a soundstage.

The crew built an enormous set which features the study, the kitchen and basement, among other rooms.
Although the show will be an adaptation, it’s not going to be a carbon copy of the source material.
Co-showrunner Carlton Cuse explained to SFX: “We meet the family when they are on the road to Matheson, Massachusetts, which is where the Locke ancestral family is.”
He said: “Through some flashbacks and exposition, we learn about the murder of Rendell and the circumstances that brought them to remake their life in this new place. “We’re setting up right away this family in this magical, special house. It’s huge, and it’s cool and ripe for exploration. That’s where our tale begins.”
