Lord of the Rings is perhaps one of the most iconic trilogies of all time. From costumes, locations, set designs, scripting, and acting, Peter Jackson’s epic was met with universal praise when it was concluded in 2003. Now, a continuation of the story is being developed by Amazon Prime Video, and will take on the events of JRR Tolkien’s Second Age – thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings.
Of course, this doesn’t really matter where characters are concerned, as many of the fictional creatures found in Middle Earth live for hundreds or thousands of years.
Fans of the franchise will no doubt be watching the Amazon show with great interest, as a number of notable characters from The Lord of the Rings will no doubt be showing up.
However fans of the franchise were certainly not expecting the arrival of any well-established characters in the upcoming TV show.
Now, Frodo star Elijah Wood has given his thoughts on the new series, and if he would ever get involved.

Speaking to IndieWire Wood confessed he would “absolutely” make an appearance in the TV show – as long as it made sense.
He said: “If there was a world where that [a Frodo cameo] made sense and was organic to what they’re doing then yes.”
Going on to reminisce about his time working on the films, Wood added: “Look, any excuse to get to go to New Zealand to work on something I am absolutely there.”
While it would probably not make any sense for Frodo to make an appearance in the show, the showrunner could always use him in the same way Bilbo Baggins (Sir Ian Holm) was used in the Hobbit trilogy.
While Holm was not actually involved in story, he made an introduction for the film as the older version of Bilbo.
Perhaps Frodo could do the same thing, and tell bystanders about the Second Age of Middle Earth.
As well as this Wood went on to discuss the TV show’s name, claiming it was “misleading”.
He said: “They’re calling it The Lord of the Rings, but I think that’s slightly misleading.

“From what I understand, the material they are working on exists chronologically further back in history in the lore of Lord of the Rings or Middle-earth than any characters represented in Lord of the Rings.
“It sounds more ‘Silmarillion’ era. Not to get nerdy, but it’s the Second Age of Middle-earth.”
While Wood is, of course, correct, the franchise no doubt needed the Lord of the Rings franchise name to entice new viewers into the world which was being built.
Unfortunately, earlier this year Sir Ian holm passed away after a battle against Parkinson’s disease.

Shortly after his death director Peter Jackson laid an emotional tribute to the actor on his Facebook page.
Jackson wrote: “I’m feeling very sad at the passing of Sir Ian Holm. Ian was such a delightful, generous man. Quiet, but cheeky, with a lovely twinkle in his eye.
“Back in early 2000, before we started shooting our Bilbo scenes for The Fellowship of the Ring, I was nervous about working with such an esteemed actor, but he immediately put me at ease.
“Standing in Bag End on the first day, before cameras started rolling, he took me to one side and said that he would be trying different things in every take, but I shouldn’t be alarmed.”
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is available on Amazon Prime Video.
