Louis Theroux’s Forbidden America documentary began on Sunday night and set tails immediately wagging with viewers. Whilst interviewing American far-right and white supremacist Nick Fuentes he made some alarming comments about how he views women and revealed he thought they shouldn’t have the right to vote. The comments sent Twitter into a meltdown, with viewers slamming the comments.
Whilst joining Nick at his convention set-up, Louis met some of the members of his group America First.
Interested to get a women’s perspective on the group, he introduced himself to a woman that came through the doors.
However, she immediately shut him down and claimed: “I don’t speak to reporters.”
Talking to Nick about the incident, Nick said: “We try to, as best we can keep women out of the inner circle.
“Women, when they get involved in these dissident political movements, they tend to be a total disaster because this is a high-pressure environment.
“Women tend to crack under the pressure, and they tend to cause friction within the group.”
Intrigued by Nick’s views, Louis pressed: “Is it your view that women, really, their role is in the home, rather than in the workplace?”
Nick immediately replied: “Yeah, 100 per cent. Women have been convinced that it’s dignified to abandon your children, I mean, from their womb literally.
“To go work in an office, you know, to go work for a corporation, how sick is that?”
Louis continued: “Women… should still have the right to vote, right?”
“Mm, I mean, I don’t think so, but that’s not going away any time soon,” Nick laughed in response to Louis.
This angered viewers of the BBC documentary, and they took to Twitter to air their frustrations with the comments Nick made.
@Dobry_Nicola fumed: “Oh my word. Women should also be at home and unable to vote #louistheroux,” alongside an angry face emoji.
@Asphalt_World commented: “It was bad enough already, but now this sexist s**t has done it. Turning over before I explode. #louistheroux.”
@Cmwhit85 added: “If I could climb in the TV to throttle someone, it would be now #louistheroux.”
Miriam MacSuibhne said: “Watching #louistheroux, and it’s giving me a knot in my stomach.”
@MissLSW wrote: “Not even 10 mins into this #LouisTheroux documentary, and I am already like, these men are pathetic!”
@HamiltonsHens quipped: “22-year-old white American male saying women shouldn’t vote… Oh, this is going to be good. #LouisTheroux.”
Siobhan McGeachie said: “Can’t believe that guys just said women shouldn’t be allowed to vote… #louistheroux.” (sic)
Louis Theroux’s Forbidden America airs Sunday at 9pm on BBC Two.
