Jacques O'Neill's emotional Love Island exit was aired on Tuesday's episode after he decided to leave the villa to be "himself" again.
Prior to the episode, the hit ITV2 dating show had confirmed the rugby star's, 23, departure and released a statement.
It read: "Jacques has made the decision to leave the Villa. He will explain his reasons to the Islanders during tonight’s episode. We fully support his decision and look forward to seeing what’s next for Jacques."
During the episode, Jacques furiously branded newcomer Adam Collard as "nothing" as he learnt that he had been talking about him behind his back while getting to know his partner Paige Thorne.
To which Paige confronted Jacques about his "rude" behaviour and insisted that he get his "s**t together".
After a heart-to-heart, the rugby player admitted that he was "struggling" as the only thing that he wants is Paige, he added: "You're too good for me."
Jacques, who admitted that seeing Paige get to know Adam would "break him", then told the boys: "I've never really been massively upset over a girl but I feel like I could be hurt here. Rather get away from things before I get hurt."
At the end of the episode, the rugby player decided to leave the villa as he admitted in the Beach Hut: "If someone told me I'd find a connection in here… I'd say: 'Shut up, mate'. I've found the best connection ever, I don't want to f**k it up, I don't want to lose her."
He then pulled Paige for a chat on the terrace where he broke down in tears, he said: "Oh f**king hell, you mean so much to me. You know that. The past two weeks… things have just, it's hard in here, I'm finding it hard.
"I'm trying to shut it off, putting a brave face on, things getting to me. Basically, like, I just wish I could finish my journey off with you in here but I'm going to go home today."
Paige then broke down in tears as Jacques told her to "still enjoy her time" on the show and insisted that he would be waiting for her on the outside.
The paramedic said: "I don't want you to go, I want you to be happy, hurts me seeing you like this."
Jacques then insisted: "I know for us to work, is for me to get back to myself, the only way is to go back home. I can't carry on like this, I can't do it."
Speaking in the Beach Hut, he said: "Like I said last week, the only thing keeping me in the villa is Paige. Never felt this way for anyone so like… yeah, I just want to get home, be myself again and carry things on outside."
Jacques then told the rest of the villa his plans to leave, where he said: "I can't stick around and not be myself. Not fair to me and not fair for Paige. For me and Paige to work… I need to be my best self. I'll wait for Paige, what I'm going to do is I'm leaving now."
The villa was left devastated over the news with Jacques' best mate, Luca Bish, breaking down in tears over the discovery.
Jacques added: "Today I am leaving the villa, it's not fair on the girl, I am hoping it's not the end of me and Paige. Everyone knows how much she means to me!"
Prior to his exit, Jacques briefly had his head turned while the girls were in Casa Amor by Cheyanne Kerr, but at the recoupling the rugby star chose to stick with Paige – much to the blonde beauty's surprise as she was under the impression the pair had "a connection".

Asked to elaborate on what had happened, Cheyanne said that Jacques "can't trust himself", they shared a bed and had also kissed too, leaving Paige devastated.
After Cheyanne's exit, Paige and Jacques were attempting to repair their relationship, although paramedic Paige appeared to express interest in bombshell Adam on Monday's episode.
