Hi guys and welcome to my first OK! column,
It feels so weird to be watching a new season of Love Island just months after mine – I’m so jealous they’re in South Africa and getting to live a life of luxury with no stress. Now I’m watching it as an ex-contestant as well as a fan, I’m definitely second guessing a few things that have happened rather than taking scenes for what they are. After all, I do have all the tea on how producers get involved! Here’s what I’ve made of week one…
Zara reminds me of myself – she’s a smashing bombshell!
We both have bombshell energy! She’s absolutely stunning and I’m so glad the boys have seen that. It’s a shame that I didn’t have the same response from the guys in my series. Like me, she also has an ethnic background and I feel relieved to see that what happened to me could have been a one-off.
I’ll be backing her all the way and she’s wasted no time in turning heads. She’s smashing it and I really hope she goes the distance.
Being a late arrival isn’t easy though
I didn’t have 24 hours to decide which boy to steal last summer – producers gave me literally just one evening. After making my entrance, I had one big group conversation with the boys and no individual chats whatsoever.
Producers then told me there would be a re-coupling that night and I needed to tell them who I was picking before we actually filmed it. After telling them I’d steal Luca, I had to go back upstairs and get ready with the girls – I’d only known them for about an hour and a half at this point.
As soon as we stood around the fire pit, I instantly thought ‘oh no, why have I done this,’ but I couldn’t turn back because my choice was locked in. It’s so nerve-wracking but ultimately, Islanders know what they’ve signed up for!
Maya Jama is unreal
I actually went to her New Year’s Eve party and can confirm she’s just as stunning in real life. We’ve got a very similar energy so we were on the dancefloor all night. Any time I’ve been in her company, she’s just larger than life and someone you just want to be friends with immediately.
I would have liked her to host my series… although when I brought Josh back from Casa Amor, he would have jumped ship even quicker if Maya was standing in front of him! Honestly, I think she’s just going to take Love Island to another level.
Producers need to find a girl for Will
Bosses really need to find someone who wants to be with him and can appreciate what a great guy he is. He’s not a typical ‘Love Island lad’ with the gift of the gab but he has such a cheeky personality in a very quirky way, which I absolutely love.
There’s nothing worse than having a villa full of the same people, which is why Will is such a great addition. They just need to make sure they cast women who aren’t after a typical geezer too! Worst come to worst Will, we can meet up when you get out. I’d love to have a dance off with him on TikTok – I’m sure that’ll make him feel better! And I’m sure he could teach me a thing or two.
I loved Thursday night’s drama!
When Shaq and Haris clashed, you could almost smell the testosterone through the TV. I actually wish the boys on our series were more like that. They played it too safe and sat around, letting the obvious alpha males take the lead. I also wish I’d spoken out as quickly as these boys have too. I was so worried about getting along with people that I went into my shell a little bit.
For viewers, the awkward tension is great. It had been quite a dull episode but then it left us all wondering what’s going to happen and who is going to make a play to steal someone. I do like a bit of drama, I can’t lie!
