Love Island Movie Night filming secrets: Stylists to extra booze and a sour mood

Welcome to my latest OK! column – it's Love Island movie night time!

I'm so excited for tonight's episode and naturally, it's got me thinking about what it was like filming the drama last summer in the Mallorca villa.

I think a few of this year's couples could be set for even more fireworks when the clips start to roll and even though it's smooth-sailing until the final, it doesn't stop Islanders feeling irked by what they've seen.

From what it's like behind-the-scenes in the villa to my prediction for this year's final (yes, you can work it out now!), here are my thoughts on the latest drama…

‘Movie night really is as dramatic as it looks’

Love Island can be a little predictable post-Casa Amor, but you always know there will be fireworks at movie night. Last year, movie night was an evening we got really dressed up for. It was quite sophisticated and eBay actually sent in a stylist to help us pick outfits, and we made a real effort with our hair.

Producers filmed us taking our seats a few times, but then you don’t have to repeat reactions or get different angles so what you see on TV is the real drama! When you see the Islanders with prosecco and pints in front of them during the clips, only the first drink is actually an alcoholic one, though. Then the reveals are just fizzy apple juice or something. Not quite so glamorous!

I think producers did give us a second drink later though – probably to take the edge off after all the drama.

When it comes to choosing which videos to watch after getting the questions right, it’s surprisingly easy. For my series, only a few of the girls – Gemma, Tasha, Ekin-Su – were actually in couples, and it’s only really the people paired up who are desperate to see certain clips. Ekin-Su got slightly pissed off because she wanted to see what Davide was like without her there, but we were more interested in Dami’s antics.

The drama movie night causes is like a domino effect sweeping across the villa – everyone is in such a sour mood and trying to come to terms with the disloyalty.

‘Olivia’s game could finally be up’

I think this could be when Olivia really gets her comeuppance for certain behaviours. We’ve seen making snide comments and getting involved in people’s business, as well as switching up her feelings for Kai as soon as he was in the bottom three. I honestly think she’s played one of the biggest games of them all!

And while she’s been called out a couple of times, she’s managed to get away with a lot of it. Tonight could reignite a lot of annoyance from Jessie, Samie and Claudia too. I think Casey especially has really downplayed what he got up to. Claudia was adamant that she’d have never got back with him if he recoupled, but what he did was actually worse than recoupling! He had the kisses and then thought ‘well, I’ll get away with it’… not with movie night though, Casey!

‘Tanya didn’t need to embarrass Martin like that’

Shaq has already forgiven Tanya for what she did and while it won’t be nice to see, I don’t think anything from movie night will put him off her. He’s said ‘I love you’ and that meant something to him – so her Casa Amor antics will be water off a duck’s back at this point.

I really do feel for Martin though, Tanya has fully embarrassed him on TV. People are so quick to judge and I’ve seen people online saying, ‘well, he knew what he was getting into.’ But it’s still never easy to put yourself out there like that and then go back home to everyday life, knowing the nation has seen it all.

Love Island is life-changing, in good and bad ways, and Martin will be coming home knowing he was basically used as a test for one of the strongest couples.Tanya told Shaq she loved him and they slept together, then she came back from Casa Amor with another man… but because she’s an OG and everyone is so invested in the love story, Islanders and viewers are both willing to led that slide. He has a right to be annoyed!

‘You can predict the finalists now’

Like I said, it’s smooth-sailing from here to the final and unless there are somehow huge upsets, it’s easy to work out who’ll make it to the end. I think whatever format the next recoupling takes, Olivia will go.

I actually hope Tom and Samie win. They’ve become two of my favourites in the past week and he was clearly devastated by his own Casa Amor actions. He’s a different person with Samie! He’s so sweet to her. Then I think Lana and Ron will be second and Shaq and Tanya could be third, it all depends on how much the public are willing to back them after this week. I’m not sure about fourth place, maybe Will and Jessie.
