Lucifer season five, part one featured some hilarious episodes when it launched on Netflix, including one where the showrunner of a very similar show was brutally killed. The character in the episode was called Matt Owens and some fans were left wanting to know more about who played him.
Who plays Matt Owens in Lucifer season 5?
Episode three of Lucifer season five saw Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) and Chloe Decker (Lauren German) investigate a new case.
This took them to the set of Diablo on the Warner Brother set, which turned out to be a series inspired by Lucifer’s own life.
The show within the show followed the devil and his detective partner as they solved crimes for the LAPD.
Both Chloe and Lucifer were called in to help when the showrunner of the show was mysteriously killed.
Viewers heard from Lucifer how he was called “Matt Owens” and how he was an old friend of his.
Although, in spite of this, viewers have not seen the character on the show before at all.
While the episode only showed a brief glimpse of the suspect, long-time fans of the series wanted to know more about him.
Unfortunately for fans, Owens is uncredited in the episode but there have been some suggestions of who might have played him.
On one hand, he bears a strong resemblance to one of Lucifer’s own showrunners Joe Henderson.
However, this might have just been an in-joke from the creators when casting for the episode.
As well as this, HITC has speculated the character may actually be played by Lucifer’s developer Tom Kapinos.
Fans of the show will just have to wait and see if any more is revealed about which actor played the character.
Showrunners Henderson and Ildy Modrovich have not yet revealed any more about this.

However, they have opened up about the episode in an interview with TV Line.
Speaking to the publication, Henderson said: “We figured if we’re going to make fun of the industry, the first thing we had to do was make fun of ourselves. That was very important.
“It’s got to be friendly fire first of all and most of all. And that’s why a piece of c*** showrunner is the victim!”
The pair also revealed there were a few Easter Eggs to be found in the episode.
Henderson added how some of the sets they used for the episode were familiar for viewers.
He explained: “Keri Belwood’s office is my office, but redressed because my office is bare and sad, and hers actually looks like a place someone would want to work out of.
“The writers room is our writers room, but redressed with a lot more candy.”
Fans might have been able to spot a few more moments, including how Detective Dancer is named after what Chloe’s character was going to originally be called.
As well as this, Modrovich revealed she even appears in the back of the episode driving in a cart through the Warner Brothers lot.
