MAFS Shona: ‘I’m not a man stealer – this was the journey we were meant to go on’

Shona Manderson has revealed that falling for Married At First Sight co-star Matt Pilmoor after taking part in the show was the journey they were "meant to go on."

The couple both joined the series looking for love and were paired with different people, going on a journey with their respective partners before finding each other.

During an exclusive chat with OK!, we probe the couple on whether they wish they were matched on the show in the first place. Shona, 31, replied: "We have spoken about this and we believe that it was the journey we were meant to go on. We needed to learn and grow, and I think how we have found each other is so romantic.

At home with MAFS' Shona and Matt: ‘We’re getting married and having two kids – this is it’

"If we had been matched on MAFS, then maybe it would have been different. We wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for MAFS – it was meant to be! When Matt walked into the reunion I was like ‘Who is that?’ because I left [the show] and then he came in, so we had never met."

29-year-old Matt echoed his girlfriend's thoughts by adding: "The whole thing has happened for a reason."

Shona left the experiment with former partner Brad Skelly just before Matt came in as a late arrival with his ex Adrienne Naylor, meaning they had just missed out on one another.

But they're glad that they weren't on the show together, out of fear that they would've ended up in the 'friend zone', as Shona assures that she isn't one to 'steal' another woman's man.

"I’m glad that we didn’t meet during the experiment because we would’ve got to know each other’s partners and then we would have become friends. It would have been way more messy," she explained.

"I would have fancied him but never go there because I knew Adrienne – I’m not a man stealer!"

It's possibly for the best, as the series was filled with drama aplenty, and even another couple swap! Late arrival JJ Slater came into the show and said 'I do' to wife Bianca Petronzi, but quickly fell for Ella Morgan, who was married to Nathaniel Valentino.

In a drama-filled storyline, Ella and JJ were left by their respective partners as their connection grew, and were even allowed to re-enter the show as a new couple and finish the process together.

However, things didn't work out between the pair and they decided to call time on their romance during the show's final vows segment.
