Marvel Fans Were Right About This Theory Involving the 'Loki' TV Show

Loki continues to be a problem – so much so that Thor’s frenemy brother will make all kinds of trouble across the past, present and future if Marvel decides to get truly adventurous with their TV show about him.

For some fans, Loki sounded like possibly the least interesting of the group of shows Marvel will roll out on Disney+ starting in the Fall 2020. Fans love Loki as a character with a capital C, but it was hard to imagine just how far they could go with a prankster god – especially considering he’s dead.

Where we last left off with the character

After causing no end of trouble for heroes and villains alike, Loki finally met his ignoble end at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War despite Loki’s best efforts to look like he was willing to be a stooge for Thanos. Although Loki can occasionally be helpful to the good guys, first and foremost, he aims to help himself – not that it did him any good with Thanos.

But this being the Marvel Cinematic Universe, death tends not to stick but for a select few. We saw Loki again in Avengers: Endgame when our heroes time traveled to the scene of their original big screen adventure, where they severely messed up Loki’s plans as well as a good chunk of New York City. We saw Loki grab hold of that troublesome Tesseract, which contains the space stone, and poof – he was gone.

It doesn’t take much imagination, then, to theorize that Loki’s Disney+ series, coming in early 2021, will involve time travel. Screen Rant quotes producer Stephen Broussard, as saying that Loki will have “a huge time travel component.” Broussard also said the show would have “a man on the run quality to it and we get the chance to explore more human sides of Loki.”

Could Loki bring back Steve Rogers?

The logical question that follows is, can this be the way that Chris Evans reprises his role as Steve Rogers/Captain America? Yes, Endgame showed us he went gently into the night, but we also know that he was successful in retrieving all the infinity stones, including the one Loki stole. So either he got it back from Loki himself or found out where Loki went with it.

This has led to some speculation that this is how the original  Captain America could once again make an appearance in the MCU without straining credibility. The Loki series could show how Steve got his groove back, however briefly, and it would be a fun reprise after we saw the adventures of Captain America’s successor in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which will have premiered the previous fall.

Evans/Rogers fans shouldn’t hold their breath though. In a recent Variety interview between Evans and Scarlett Johansson, Johansson asked Evans if he would consider coming back to Marvel.  His response:

“It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either. There are other things that I’m working on right now. I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey. If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab. It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited. What are we revealing? What are we adding to the story? A lot of things would have to come together.”

‘Loki’ will tie into the multiverse

It has previously been reported that the WandaVision series would tie into the theatrical movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that comes out in May 2021. However, that will not be the only MCU show to do it. Loki will somehow too.

CBR.com reported that no less than Kevin Feige said, “I’m not sure we’ve actually acknowledged that before. But it does.” Naturally, he wouldn’t say anything beyond that. If nothing else, Feige is certainly making sure to sell those Disney+ subscriptions. Loki would surely approve of the tactics.

Coming out around the same time as Loki and WandaVision are the animated series What If …? and a live action series devoted to Hawkeye. Also announced but with no solid air dates are She Hulk, Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel.
