Matt Baker is returning to More4 with a new series of Our Farm in the Dales, and the whole family will be taking part. In the second season, the family prepares for lambing and they turn to a friend to make a precarious bank behind the farmhouse more stable. Presenter Matt moved back to the Dales to support his parents, including his mother Janice, after a horrific accident.
What happened to Matt Baker’s mum Janice?
Matt Baker was known for being a presenter on The One Show, but he announced his departure back in December 2019.
He left the talk show in order to rush back to his family farm so he could care for his mother who had been involved in an accident.
His father had called him to say Janice had been injured in the sheep pen and Matt did not hesitate to move his family back home.
Janice needed knee replacement surgery after she was injured by a sheep.
She said: “I was sorting through the lambs and the ewes ready for clipping. I was just there and a big ewe just stood on my foot and I was just grounded.
“Then they just dived into my leg and then another two just went…the pain was excruciating.”
When she first returned to the pen after the accident, she found herself getting emotional.
In order for Janice to still be able to work on the farm as a shepherdess, Matt made some huge changes.
He bought a smaller flock of sheep that was easier to handle and made some adjustments to make farm life less demanding.
She became emotional when she had to say goodbye to the flock of sheep she had looked after for so long.
But she admitted it was the right decision as she could no longer manage the larger flock.
Janice is thankfully now back on her feet, with Matt making frequent trips to Durham to check on her.
Matt is on Instagram and he has been sharing some behind the scenes footage from the new series.
He said: “Here we go with series 2 of Our Farm In The Dales! – it all starts on Monday night! Hopefully you can join us 9pm on More4. We’ve made 6 programmes this time round, picking up where we left off …. can’t wait for you to see it.” [Sic]
In the trailer, he is heard saying: “After a tough year for my parents, we are ready for some new challenges.
“So we can start a whole new chapter.” Janice is seen in the video and she is walking comfortably without any support.
Back in April 2021, he and his parents thanked fans for supporting the escapist series.
He said: “Huge Thanks to all of you who have watched Our Farm in The Dales!
“My whole family are delighted and it means the world to feel your support!
“On behalf of my production company you all gave us a record breaking first show thank you from all my wonderfully talented team.”
Opening up on the impact his mother’s accident has had on him, Matt said: “You get to a point in your life where you start looking after your parents, suddenly there’s this role reversal.
“I wanted to be able to spend more time with your family. The timing of it couldn’t have been any better.”
Matt make a surprise return to The One Show earlier tonight (October 18), when he spoke about Children in Need.
He will once again be taking part in the Rickshaw Challenge, and explained how this year’s charity event would be something a bit different.
Matt Baker: Our Farm in the Dales season 2 starts tonight (October 18) on More4.
