Michael Barrymore to make TV comeback on Dancing On Ice

The veteran TV host is making a return to the small screen after stepping out of the limelight for well over a decade.

Michael Barrymore will be lacing up his ice skates for the 2020 series of Dancing on Ice.

The star, who rose to fame via appearances on Blankety Blank and Who Do You Do?, is making a TV comeback following his stint on Celebrity Big Brother in 2006.

During the latest instalment of This Morning, hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby revealed Michael is part of the 12 celebrities who will be taking to the ice on next year's series.

Michael will be joined by Love Islander Maura Higgins, along with a whole host of famous faces.

Appearing via video message on the popular daytime show, he said: “I’m delighted to say that I’ll be joining the Dancing on Ice line-up for 2020.

“I’m looking forward to meeting Holly and Phil. I’m very excited… it’s performance time!”

The TV star is best known for hosting shows including Kids Say the Funniest Things, My Kind of People, My Kind of People and Strike it Lucky, and revealed earlier this year he would like to make a return to television "if it's the right thing to do".

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, he said: "I have never chased my career, even when I needed it years ago. You just need to sit back and let it happen, just be there in the right place…"

After appearing on Pier's Morgan's Life Stories in July, where he spoke about his drink and drug addiction and failed marriage, he opened up about the possibility of another stint at television work.

He added: “Since Life Stories went out, I feel like it is the right time and the right place, but it is not for me to decide, I can’t give myself work.”

Michael, along with the other celebrities, will skate live with their professional partners in a bid to impress both the panel and the viewers, who will ultimately decide who wins the show.

This year sees John Barrowman join Torvill and Dean and Ashley Banjo on the panel, while Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby will once again return to present the show.
