The Dingles have spent the last few days searching for Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), after he went missing from the Emmerdale village last week.
They recently tracked him down to a guesthouse, and planned to catch him as he tried to check out.
With Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) on look out, they were determined to find him and bring him home, though they wouldn’t be so lucky.
It became clear that Paddy didn’t want to be found, as he confided in a fellow guest outside.
Together they concocted a plan to get Mandy and Chas (Lucy Pargeter) away from the guest house, with the other guest telling them that Paddy was there waiting. In the meantime, Paddy collected his belongings before moving on once more.
Mandy and Chas headed back to the Woolpack, disappointed and worried, to deliver the bad news to Bear (Joshua Richards).
Meanwhile, Paddy’s new friend tried to make him see what his family were going through, explaining how worried they were and how much they clearly care.
Later, Mandy received a phone call from an unknown number. Bear picked up, and was greeted by Paddy’s voice.
The pair listened as he delivered the heartbreaking news that he didn’t want to be found.
Though Mandy refused to stop until Paddy was safely back home, Bear decided that it was time to call off the search, worried that they may push him over the edge should they continue to look for him.
It was recently announced that Paddy would eventually return home in order to say veiled goodbyes to his friends and family, before considering suicide.
While Paddy feels completely isolated and lost at the moment, producer Jane Hudson assured viewers that there will be ‘light at the end of the tunnel’.
