A shock announcement in Tuesday (September 5)’s Emmerdale heralded the possible departure of two more characters from the village – adding to the already long list of recent and upcoming farewells.
In recent months beloved patriarch Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) left viewers shocked when he died suddenly on the day of Jai and Laurel’s wedding.
Not long after this Liam Fox, who had played Dan Spencer since 2011, left the show after his character Dan Spencer was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
There were also departures in the Anderson family, with Naomi (Karene Peter) leaving for a new life abroad, and then the tragic death of Victor (Eddie Osei) who died of a brain aneurysm in the church after being falsely accused of theft.

Upcoming departures are likely to include Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland), whose life will be in huge danger during a dramatic car crash during Super Soap Week.
Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) is also leaving the Dales and her final scenes will air later this year. It’s also been reported that Matthew Wolfenden has quit the show citing a ‘lack of gritty storylines’ for his character David Metcalfe.
So back to Tuesday (September 5), and Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) was not a happy woman. Dawn (Olivia Bromley) was barely speaking to her after discovering that Gabby had kissed Billy (Jay Kontzle) then tried to blackmail him into beating up Nicky (Lewis Cope).
Gabby vented her frustration in a chat with Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant), but this made Bernice cross because Gabby’s anger was frightening the customers at the B&B. Bernice advised her daughter to stop moaning about her terrible life at Home Farm.
‘This is the downside to being the brood mare,’ she pointed out – words that didn’t help Gabby’s mood at all as she realised she was entirely under Kim Tate (Claire King)’s control due to being the mother of Kim’s grandchild.
So she made the decision to sell the HOP. She told Jai (Chris Bisson) and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) first and they immediately worried about what would happen to their jobs if a big chain bought the place. The Jai started to wonder if he might be able to buy his old business back somehow.
When Kim found out Gabby’s decision from Jai, she was fuming at not being consulted about the sale. But there was worse to come for Kim, as Gabby informed her that she wasn’t just selling the business – she was leaving Emmerdale and probably moving abroad, taking Thomas with her.
Will Kim try to do something to stop Gabby? Or could Gabby and Thomas be next on the long list of Emmerdale departures?
