“NCIS: Los Angeles” star Chris O’Donnell enjoyed a thriving movie career before making the switch to television. One movie he appeared in was “The Three Musketeers,” alongside actors Kiefer Sutherland and Charlie Sheen. Here’s what O’Donnell said it was like working with Charlie Sheen.
Chris O’Donnell appeared in some memorable movies before his TV career took off
One of O’Donnell’s early movies is the 1992 film “School Ties,” starring Brendan Frasier and Matt Damon. That year, he also starred in “Scent of a Woman,” alongside Al Pacino. His other movies include starring roles in “Blue Sky,” “Circle of Friends,” and “Mad Love.”
O’Donnell told CBS’ “Watch!” magazine he didn’t see “Mad Love” all the way through because he was in an awkward situation. He had some intimate scenes with Drew Barrymore, and his significant other was sitting next to him during the movie screening. O’Donnell says he was quite uncomfortable:
I saw half of it with Drew [Barrymore] and my wife, who was my girlfriend at the time. It was a screening just for us, and I’m [watching myself] rolling around the hay with Drew, and it was just like, ‘This is awkward!’ I have to tell you, historically, I didn’t love watching myself on film.
Chris O’Donnell on what it was like to work with Charlie Sheen
Back in 1993, O’Donnell joined the cast of “The ThreeMusketeers,” along with co-stars Charlie Sheen and Kiefer Sutherland. He told “Watch!”magazine that working on that movie was “insane.” Here’s how O’Donnell describesworking side-by-side with Sheen:
Charlie is one of the most charming guys I’ve every met. He’s just got some issues, and you knew it back then. It was like taking your wildest buddy from college and giving him millions and millions of dollars to see what the does. I thought I was a pretty worldly guy, having come out of college and doing some films, but this was a whole different world. It was kind of fun to dip my toe in the water with him a little bit, but I was not fully engaging in their, uh, activities.
Chris O’Donnell on how Charlie Sheen and Kiefer Sutherland act when they’re drinking
O’Donnell also spoke about what his co-stars were like when they started drinking. “Watch!” writer Alison Prato asked the actor if he’s ever seen the video of Sutherland tackling a Christmas tree in a bar. O’Donnell said he hadn’t seen the video, but he did get a firsthand experience of what Sutherland and Sheen were like after a few drinks:
[Charlie and Kiefer] get different when they’ve been cocktailing. Kiefer will get real emotional and real sincere, and then all of a sudden he gets a little loopy. And when he’s hung over, he gets kind of angry. Then it starts over again. But he’s a sweet guy. A great actor. That was… an adventure.
