Matthew Broderick and Colin Ford star in adaption of Brian Ralph’s graphic novel series, debuting Oct. 24
Matthew Broderick goes from Hollywood’s favorite high school truant to positive principle in Netflix’s upcoming dramedy, “Daybreak.”
And the “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” references don’t end there, as the official trailer released Monday morning showed.
Star Colin Ford, who plays 17-year-old hero, Josh Wheeler, closes out the action-filled teaser with this drop the mic line honoring the 1986 John Hughes classic: “And you thought we weren’t going to have any fun with the Apocalypse, shame on you.”
The 1-minute, 1o-second clip opens with a normal school day as Broderick’s Principal Michael Burr makes morning announcements and positive affirmations to the students of Glendale High School.
Then things start to get wild, as realize that this is actually post-apocalyptic California that is more like “Mad Max” than “Saved by the Bell.”
Along with Broderick and Ford, “Daybreak” also stars Krysta Rodriguez, Sophie Simnett, Austin Crute, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Cody Kearsley, Jeanté Godlock and Gregory Kasyan. Executive producers are Aron Eli Coleite, Brad Peyton, and Jeff Fierson.
The series is based on Brian Ralph’s graphic novel of the same name.
Read Netflix’s official description below:
“In this post-apocalyptic, genre-bending series, the city of Glendale, California is populated by marauding gangs of jocks, gamers, the 4-H Club, and other fearsome tribes who are kicking ass as they fight to survive in the wake of a nuclear blast (on the night of Homecoming…ugh).
Following an eclectic group of survivors as they navigate this strange and treacherous world, ‘Daybreak” is part samurai saga, part endearing coming-of-age story, and part Battle Royale. This Generation A series (A for Apocalypse! Get it?) is rated TV MA.”
“Daybreak” debuts Oct. 24 on Netflix.
