Nicholas Gonzalez was in the first three series of The Good Doctor on ABC as Dr Neil Melendez. He had been a key member of the team at San Jose St Bonaventure Hospital and an important part of Shaun Murphy’s (played by Freddie Highmore) journey as a surgeon. Everything came crashing down though when Melendez was trapped inside a collapsing building in series three.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Good Doctor.
Melendez was attending a charity event when an earthquake struck and he was stuck.
Luckily, he wasn’t initially injured but when another quake happened while he was still inside, pieces of rubble fell on top of him.
He had to be taken to hospital but it was believed at the time this was only a precaution.
But just as he had confessed his love to Dr Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas), Melendez wasn’t able to breathe and resulted in his shocking death.
Melendez died of sepsis and viewers have been grieving for the beloved doctor ever since.
What can you see The Good Doctor’s Nicholas Gonzalez in next?
Actor Gonzalez may no longer be in The Good Doctor but soon there will be another series for fans to look forward to seeing him in.
He has been cast in the new NBC sci-fi drama La Brea as a character called Levi Brooks who will be an Air Force pilot.
Levi will be recruited to lead a rescue team in helping a group of people who fell into a sinkhole that mysteriously opened up in the middle of Los Angeles.
Gonzalez took to social media to announce his latest television role.
Taking to Instagram, the former The Good Doctor actor shared a screenshot of an article from Deadline.
The headline reads: “Nicholas Gonzalez joins NBC drama series La Brea; Rohan Mirchandaney also cast”.
Along with the photo, Gonzalez wrote: “Mooovin’ on uuup…to a deeeluxe apartment…in #Melbourne. Beyond excited to join this talented family. See ya soon! Only on @nbc #LaBrea.”
From the sounds of it, the sinkhole isn’t just a random act of nature but something far more sinister.

As the sinkhole opens up, a family of four is torn apart with the mum and son on one side with dad and daughter on the other.
Half of the family who are in the sinkhole end up in an alternative evil world along with other people who fell in with them.
So it’s up to Levi and his team to try and figure out a way to try and get them all out before it’s too late.
This isn’t the first role Gonzalez has had though since leaving The Good Doctor.
Earlier this year, he starred in the romantic comedy Hallmark TV movie Playing Cupid as a character called David Martinez.
He will also be in the film Borrego alongside actress Lucy Hale, a thriller which is expected to come out this year.
The synopsis for the movie reads: “Borrego follows a young botanist who relocates to a small desert town to study an invasive plant species.
“She must fight for her survival when she’s kidnapped by an inexperienced drug mule after his ultralight plane crashes in the desert.”
La Brea will be out sometime this year on NBC.
