Paddy Bever reveals all on 'harrowing' Max storyline in Coronation Street

Coronation Street star Paddy Bever has revealed what’s ahead for his character – troubled teenager Max Turner.

This year has been a busy one for Max so far. He was involved in a feud with Daniel (Rob Mallard), spiked Amy’s (Elle Mulvaney) drink and because of his actions, he’s now attending a pupil referral unit at a different school.

Max has been enjoying getting to know his new school mates which has surprised David (Jack P Shepherd) and Shona (Julia Goulding), until they realised he actually only likes going to school now because there’s a girl he’s trying to impress.

Coming up, Max will face a horrific ordeal as someone pretending to be Sonya, the love interest, will trick him into sending a naked picture of himself.

The terrifying situation leads to Max being blackmailed as the mysterious account tells him to hand over cash and if not, the picture will go viral.

Speaking about what’s ahead for his character, Paddy told us:

‘There is a harrowing moment for Max. There were points in which everyone on set felt quite uncomfortable, while that was difficult, it was also really rewarding. I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out.’

Reflecting on his journey playing Max so far, Paddy said: ‘When I got the role, I got a bit of indication as to who Max is, rough on the outside but soft on the inside, but the amount of stuff they’ve thrown at me – I had no idea I would get all that! It’s been a real joy. It’s very exciting to play someone so complex – definitely one of the most complex people on the show.’

It’s been a lot of drama and dark periods for Max lately and for Paddy, he’d like the audience to see that his character is definitely capable of showing a kinder side:

‘I would love to see a storyline where we see the real, empathetic, carrying, loyal side of Max a little more. He really is that sort of person – I love him and I think I’m the only person who does! I think we need to see some form of redemption at some point, that would be really exciting.’
