The remaining Bake Off contestants were tasked with creating brownies in the latest instalment of the Channel 4 competition. Paul Hollywood was disappointed with the bakers’ efforts as presenter Noel Fielding and Laura hit out at the judge’s reaction to the contestants’ Signature Bake.
Peter was the first baker to face Paul and Prue Leith but his unique take on brownies didn’t please the judges.
The contestant opted for a date and fig upside-down effect and flavoured his creations with cinnamon.
Paul said: “They look quite attractive on the top.”
“Really look lovely,” Prue added. “It’s got the chewiness but it’s coming from the dates.”

Unimpressed, Paul asked: “What spices did you use?”
Peter explained he had used cinnamon before Paul gave his damning critique of the brownies.
“Think there’s too much cinnamon actually,” Paul said. “It’s overtaking the chocolate. Different, risky, it’s okay.”
“That is brutal,” Noel quipped before Peter added: “Disappointing.”
Laura was next to face the Bake Off judges but her brownies also failed to impress the pair.
Prue commented: “They came out of the oven too early.”
“It does look a mess,” Paul added before Prue critiqued: “Too much Italian meringue.”
“Far too sweet you’ve got caramel, meringue, chocolate. [I’m thinking] ‘Enough now!’”
All of the Bake Off contestants received negative feedback of varying degrees.
Commenting on Paul’s comments, Laura remarked to Lottie: “Ruthless!”
