Peaky Blinders: Did Mosley plant Gina as a spy to destroy the Peaky Blinders?

Peaky Blinders is a period crime drama which is set in Birmingham and features the iconic Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy). The series follows the Shelby family after the First World War and the family is loosely based on the 19th century youth gang of the same name. The award-winning show has been renewed for another series and filming should be starting soon.

The end of the fifth series Tommy Shelby had planned to take down the fascist Mosley (Sam Claflin) at a political rally.

The plot has been planned with great precision and Barney (Cosmo Jarvis) was ready to pull the trigger.

However, things backfired in a horrific way when Barney was the one who ended up being shot.

The disaster meant someone must have known about Tommy’s plan and was able to intercept before Mosley was killed.

  • Peaky Blinders season 5 theory: Is Gina Gray working with Mosley?

At the end of the nerve-wracking episode Tommy was left wandering in the misty marshes when he saw his dead wife Grace (Annabelle Wallis), who was luring him in to join her in the afterlife.

In the final scene Tommy held a gun up to his head and started screaming, with fans left wondering whether he had pulled the trigger.

As viewers will have to wait a while for the new season to start, they have been revisiting the last series.

One fan has come up with a theory about who betrayed Shelby in the season five finale.

Aleiphart said: “I think it was Gina (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Mosley. Let’s think about it, in season five episode two, when Mosley first met Michael (Finn Cole) and Arthur (Paul Anderson) in Tommy’s office, he said to Michael that his regular in Detroit was a club called The Gladiator.

“How else would he have known that unless he had someone there in that club? I believe this person was Gina. Michael met himself a wife in Detroit and brought her back home.

“In season five episode two, Gina clearly is lying about being pregnant. Polly knows when everyone is pregnant before they even do. This is a huge clue to me.

“In season five episode four, when Mosley came to the ballet party that Tommy hosted, Michael said that Mosley was a lord, only to be quickly corrected by Gina, saying he was a baronet. Seems suspicious.

During the ballet performance, Gina and Mosley gave each other an odd look, as if they knew each other.”

They added: “I think Mosley planted Gina in Detroit to seduce Michael and get her into the Shelby family. I don’t have a theory on why he chose the Shelbys, maybe he actually wanted Tommy to do this Fascism movement with him, but he needed a spy in the family to make sure all is well?

“Then Tommy decided Mosley needed to die and Gina happened to hear. Then Gina had Michael pull the trigger on Barney because Michael wanted to take over Shelby Company Limited, and Gina manipulated Michael like she always does to get him to believe this will help him takeover the company, but her true intentions were to protect Mosley.”

Fans believe the creators of the series are setting up a Gina and Mosley connection, but they believe the final scene could be part of a bigger plot.

  • Peaky Blinders season 6: Does new episode title confirm Tommy’s fate?

Yaboyskinnyp said: “I bet you it’s linked to a larger fascist plot. I don’t think Mosley was in on it, but the larger group wants him to survive.

“There was a fascist plot in the 30s to overthrow Roosevelt and I think that will play into season six.”

Some fans have criticised the fifth series for becoming too political and thought Tommy alone overthrowing Mosley was too far-fetched.

They will have to wait until later next year to find out what happens to Tommy Shelby and whether he is still alive.

Filming of series 6 of Peaky Blinders will be coming back to screens next year
