Peter Beale's EastEnders return explained as new actor Dayle Hudson arrives in Albert Square

EASTENDERS' Peter Beale is set to return as TV newcomer Dayle Hudson becomes the seventh actor to take on the role after Ben Hardy departed from the Square to pursue Hollywood.

The young Beale left after finding out his brother was behind the death of his twin sister Lucy. But what fans really want to know is what is Peter’s comeback storyline and when exactly does he return to the BBC One soap?

What is Peter Beale’s comeback storyline?

Peter was last seen in Walford in 2015 after struggling  to cope with the news that his brother Bobby had been responsible for killing his sister Lucy.

Peter later reunited with his teen love Lauren Branning to start a new life in New Zealand.

But it was later revealed that Peter had turned to the bottle to deal with his problems.

So it’s likely that Peter’s comeback storyline will pick up from there, but fans will have to wait to find out exact details.

When will Peter Beale return to EastEnders?

Peter Beale is set to return to the soap in the new year.

It remains to be seen exactly when he’ll return, however.

What do we know about Dayle Hudson?

Peter Beale will make his return to Walford following a four year absence.

The role will be reprised by rising star Dayle Hudson, who is set to take the reins on the part following actor Ben Hardy's exit in 2015.

The actor who last played the role quit to go to Hollywood and has since starred in a series of blockbuster movies including Bohemian Rhapsody and X-Men: Apocalypse.

Actor Dayle joins the long list of former Peters, including his most recent predecessor Ben.

Ben took over from Thomas Law, who played Peter between 2006 and 2010.

Before that, Peter was played by James Martin between 2004 and 2006.

Prior to James taking on the part, actor Joseph Shade held the role of Peter from 1998 to 2004, with Alex Stevens playing him as a young boy for a year from 1997.

What has Dayle said about Peter Beale’s return?

Dayle told The Sun Online: “I am really grateful and excited to have the opportunity to work on such an institution of British television, alongside some incredible actors.

“Peter has been away for some time so I can’t wait to find out what he’s been up to and I’m very excited to see what the future holds for him.”

Executive Producer, Jon Sen, added: “As soon as I met Dayle, I knew he’d be the one to bring Peter Beale back to Walford."

Is Lauren Branning returning to EastEnders?

Fans were stunned in July when Kathy Beale revealed that Ian was in New Zealand because Peter and Lauren were having relationship troubles.

When Lauren left the soap in 2018, she was heading to New Zealand to give her relationship with Peter another go.

The soap had never actually confirmed whether the pair had managed to rekindle their relationship.

But the news from Kathy got fans hoping that Jacqueline could be making a surprise return to the soap.

With Peter set to return in the new year, could Lauren be following closely behind him?

After Lauren Branning actress Jacqueline Jossa’s I’m A Celeb Win, fans are now desperate for her character's return to Albert Square.

But EastEnders is yet to announce any plans of a return – so fans will just have to wait and see.
