Good Morning Britain was back and during today’s show, Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid spoke to Captain Tom Moore, a 99-year-old veteran who served in World War Two and was aiming to walk the length of his garden 100 times before his 100th birthday on April 30.

Moved by his mission, Piers decided to increase the jackpot by a whopping £10,000.

“I want to get you over the line today! I want to get you over the line, here’s what I’m going to do Tom, I’m going to put £10,000 of my own money into your fundraising today, and I hope that encourages everyone watching at home to do the same, to be as generous as they can, little or small, big or large, whatever they can do – let’s get you over the half a million!”

“Thank you!” Captain Tom replied. “It’s been lovely to speak to you and Susanna.”

“So you know what? It’s our pleasure to talk to all of you this morning and we’re so grateful for your service and what you’re doing,” Susanna replied.

“And we just love seeing you, two inspirational 99-year-olds, just brilliant! Doing their bit, thank you both.”

Speaking about the donations, Captain Tom said: “I feel it’s absolutely fabulous people have been so kind to give so much money to the National Health Service, because if you’ve ever been in hospital, you’ll know all the trained staff are bright-eyed and bushy tails to answer their duties.

“They must be a little apprehensive because they don’t know what’s going to happen but they’re in for a pretty tough day.

“But by gosh, they’re brave,” he added.

Captain Tom was also asked about his advice on how the nation should get through the coronavirus pandemic.
