Piers Morgan proved wrong by Good Morning Britain guest as viewers left cringing

Piers Morgan was forced to eat his own words this morning when he misquoted a guest on the GMB sofa.

Liberal Democrat leader Sal Brinton joined Piers and Susanna Reid in the studio, ahead of tomorrow's general election.

Quickly, the 54-year-old host turned the conversation around to the subject of gender, and self-identity.

Famously, Piers identified as a "two-spirit penguin" earlier this year in response to an educational video released by the BBC, which claimed there are more than 100 genders.

A petition in favour of Piers' sacking later started doing the rounds on social media, though he shrugged the campaign off, branding it as "dangerous and dehumanising".

On this morning's show, he raged: "Self-identity these days is out of control!"

Turning to his guest, the controversial host asked Sal how many genders she thought existed.

The politician responded that there were "at least two" that she could think of.

Later, getting more worked up, Piers declared: "You just sat here two minutes ago and said there were two genders."

Correcting him, Sal responded: "Actually, I think you'll find I said 'at least two'."

Once Piers had been proved wrong, GMB viewers were left feeling a little riled up over the interview, branding it "uncomfortable" and "embarrassing".

One said: "SELF IDENTITY; Piers you cant even self-identity the fact your a bully never mind trying to educate the nation on identifying genders!"
