Starz’s renowned crime series Power is further expanding its franchise with the release of a Rashad Tate spin-off, Power Book V: Influence. Although showrunners have remained quiet since its announcement in 2020, actor Larenz Tate spoke exclusively to express.co.uk and provided a major update.

Rashad Tate (played by Larenz Tate) made his first appearance on Power in season four, and as his storyline progressed viewers learned the once esteemed politician was in fact a crook.

After losing the race to become New York’s newest governor to his enemy James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick (Omari Hardwick) Tate became severely depressed.

However, the character made an unexpected appearance in the show’s first spin-off, Power Book II: Ghost, where he was attempting to revive his political career in the wake of Ghost’s death.

Speaking on Rashad’s fate, Tate revealed: “He’s a very driven person, they’re going to be a bunch of hurdles and are going to be some roadblocks in Rashad’s way.

“But he’s certainly going to be motivated and inspired to focus on his agenda and his goals.

“His brother Kamal will be there to remind him that he’s a Tate, we got to keep the name alive and to stay driven.

“So he certainly has some things that he has to do in his mind, in finding ways to navigate some of the hurdles, and the roadblocks in his way, “ he added.

Rashad returned to screens with a whole different career, the disgraced politician was now teaching the son of his enemy Tariq St Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr), an ethics class at Stanfield university.

While very few details have been revealed about Power Book V: Influence, the spin-off was confirmed in February 2020.

When asked if the show was in production, Tate disclosed: “The short and direct answer is no, we’re focusing on Power Book season two.

“The long answer is yes, there’s been conversation about it – but the focus right now is Ghost season two.”

In the episodes of the current series, Rashad was able to use his connection to bribe Tariq into sharing controversial information about Councilman Sweeney in order to gain his seat.

He explained: “The focus right now is Ghost season two and really navigating Rashad through this power world, this particular one.

“It’s an adventure for me just to be able to navigate from one big series to a small one, with the possibility of having some more going on.

Speaking on a potential release date, the actor proceeded to confirm: “I’m being very honest, I don’t know what it is,” and joked, “but when I know I’m going to say something.”

Tate continued: “So again, we’re focused on season two and I’m really excited because they really lay some nice stuff out in this, they really lay it out quite nice.”

The highly anticipated Power Book V: Influence is set to follow Rashad as he attempts to achieve greater political power.

In the most recent episode of Power Book II, Rashad got his hands on an old photo of Sweeney in blackface and armed with this, he will undoubtedly use this incriminating photo to solidify his position in politics.

However, with a release date yet to be announced, fans can look forward to the expansion of the Power franchise with its other spin-offs.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan season two is expected to be released later this year, Power Book IV: Force, Tommy Egan’s spinoff will premiere on February 6 and Power Book II: Ghost has been given the green light for season three.

Power Book II: Ghost seasons 1-2 are available to stream on Starz and Starzplay.
