The fifth season of the hit USA Network series continued this week, and drug lord Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) was more ruthless than ever. As her team struggled with the ramifications of her latest schemes, Queen of the South fans were more concerned with Kelly Anne Van Awken’s (Molly Burnett) latest news.

Kelly Anne took her relationship with Teresa’s trusted sicario Pote (Hemky Madera) in the latest episode of Queen of the South.

In episode two, ‘Me Llevo Manhattan’, Kelly Anne surprised her new partner by confirming that she was pregnant with his baby.

Fans were already predicting the announcement after she appeared to suffer a bout of morning sickness earlier in the episode.

However, the announcement came at an inopportune moment as Pote continued to mourn for Teresa’s slain godson, Tony Parra (Julian Silva).

As the series continues, Teresa’s plans to take down Judge Lafayette (David Andrews) could be sabotaged as Boaz (Joseph Thomas Campos) prepares to make his own move.

Meanwhile, Pote also wrestled with the implications of Teresa’s prison takeover, which threatened to funnel disenfranchised kids into a life of crime.

After admitting to Kelly Anne that Tony had been like a son to him, he maintained that their business was no place for kids.

Unfortunately, viewers had a strong idea of what was about to come next, as Kelly Anne promptly threw up into a trash can.

Pote’s concern for the lives of the children Teresa comes in contact with perfectly mirrored his doubts about his abilities as a soon-to-be Dad.

Thankfully, despite always being the first to take action when things turn nasty, the audience has watched Pote evolve into one of the most trustworthy characters in the series.

Once Kelly-Anne had confirmed the news, Queen of the South fans took to social media to show their excitement for the new addition to La Familia.

On Twitter, one viewer said: “Y’all called it. Kelly Ann is pregnant.”

Another fan mused: “Pote has faced down gangs, drug dealers, assassins, and Sicario but I bet he’s never been afraid until right now.”

Many fans felt Kelly Anne and Pote’s moment together had a rather sombre tone considering the circumstances of the episode.

“Pote and Kelly Anne’s scene was so sad and overwhelming,” said one fan.

“They’re going to be parents, but they’ve just killed two people.”

“Kelly Anne has decided to go full gangster mama: she’s not leaving Pote to finish the job by himself, pregnant or not.”

Now Teresa has fully embraced her role as the Queen, it’s becoming harder for her allies to find a way out of their life of organised crime.

With the war against the Judge coming to a head, and Teresa striking new deals with the Russians and Dominicans, does Kelly Anne and Pote’s baby have a chance of leading a normal life?

Queen of the South season 5 continues Wednesday, April 21 on USA Network.
