Queen of the South has seen some of its most popular characters drop out of the series one by one. The latest was Camilla Vargas (played by Veronica Falcon) who was exiled by Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga). But one of the most heartbreaking losses in the USA Network series happened in the first season.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Queen of the South?
Brenda Parra (Justina Machado) was the mother Tony Parra (Adolfo Alvarez), Teresa’s godson in the series.
She is introduced as the wife of Chino Parra (Rodolfo Valdés), Guero’s (Jon-Michael Ecker) cousin who defends Teresa in the very first episode.
Chino and Gurro both work for Don Epifanio (Joaquim de Almeida) as drug dealers and over time, Teresa and Brenda became best friends.
So when both of the men were killed by Epifanio’s men for betraying him, they had to rely on each other more than ever.
What happened to Brenda in Queen of the South?
Teresa persuaded Brenda and Tony to travel to the US where she felt they would be safe from Epifanio.
To make sure they could stay in the country, they needed money for immigration papers which eventually led them to an underground tunnel as they continued to run from Epifanio’s men.
They open a crank wheel and are disgusted when they see piles of dead bodies.
Brenda starts to panic and says she thinks they should leave immediately but then two men approach them with a gun and they are taken captive.
Viewers next see Brenda and Teresa tied up on chairs with El Limpiador (David Labiosa), one of Epifanio’s men, demanding information.
The Governor wanted to see them dead as they knew about Chino and Guero’s deaths and knew it would look bad for his political career.
But in a moment of bravery, Teresa made a deal with El Limpiador saying if he gave them $250,000 (£190,000) and their freedom, they wouldn’t say a word.
Surprisingly, he agreed and he gave Teresa the money and untied them.

El Limpiador says he will honour his part of the deal as long as he is never asked any questions about the death of Chino and Guerro.
However, despite getting his word, Brenda continues to pursue the issue so he would never come after Tony which angered him.
Next thing you know, he has his arm around Brenda’s neck and Teresa runs off as they start shooting towards her.
However, it wasn’t until the finale that fans found out Brenda’s fate.
Determined to save Brenda, Teresa finds out where she is now being held and gets Pote Galvez (Hemky Madera) to drive her to the farm.
Together, they fight off and kill El Limpiador’s men who are guarding her.
Sadly, when Teresa does discover Brenda, she finds the lovable loud-mouthed mother dead and tied up in the garage.
Out of pure rage, when El Limpiador returns, Teresa shoots him several times in the chest.
At the end of the series, Teresa is seen burying her best friend and must now look after her son Tony in her memory.
Queen of the South is available to watch on Netflix.
