Richard Madeley on how he was nearly shot by police
Richard Madeley has detailed how one officer nearly pulled the trigger on him after being pulled over by the police in another country.
The discussion comes after many Met officers have stood down from firearms duties after a murder charge against one of their colleagues.
Commenting on the current situation, Richard recalled one incident he had with a firearm and a police officer.
He said: “I was pulled over, now in this country, I don’t know about you guys, occasionally when I’m stopped by the police, I always get out of the car to kind of show respect.”
Revealing to the panel he usually gets out of the vehicle, Susanna highlighted people need to stay in their car when dealing with the authorities in America.

Richard added: ”So I got out of the car as this lone policeman, he was on his own in the patrol car, was walking up the side of my car to join me.
“I climbed out of the car and stood up, he immediately drew his gun.”
The 67-year-old explained how the officer aimed the weapon at him after he got out of the vehicle.
He added: “He said, I won’t use the language, ‘Get back in the blank blank car, get back in the blank blank car, hands on the dashboard.’”

Explaining he got back into the car and put his hands on the dashboard, the officer proceeded to walk “crab-like” to the side of his window.
Richard continued: “He pointed the gun through Judy (Finnigan) here in the line of fire.
“He said, ‘What the blank are you doing?!’”
Recalling the incident, Richard told the officer he was getting out to speak to him when he realised he was British.
The officer told Richard: “I thought you were going to pull a gun on me, I came that close to pulling the trigger”.
He added: “That’s how trigger-happy they are out there, it was a nasty experience.”
Richard’s co-stars were left gobsmacked by the story Susanna Reid’s face looked concerned throughout as Andrew Pierce was left stunned.
