Richard Madeley made a bit of a faux pas on Good Morning Britain after remarking on how slim Kate Middleton is and how "tiny" her waist is.
Richard and co-presenter Susanna Reid were discussing the Earthshot Prize Awards that took place last night and where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were the guests of honour, as well as speakers at the event.
Kate, 40, wore a stunning Grecian-inspired Alexander McQueen gown that she had showcased before at the BAFTAs and during a US tour – guests were asked to “recycle” outfits.
After showing some footage of the royal at the climate change gig, Richard said: “She’s so slim, isn’t she Kate, tiny, tiny waist.”
Susanna, 50, gave an awkward laugh but agreed and said: “Isn’t she, she looks absolutely terrific.”
The Earthshot awards, attended by a host of celebrities including Emma Watson and Emma Thompson, gave out £1 million to five winners to combat climate change.
GMB viewers were outraged that Richard, 65, chose to comment on Kate’s appearance rather than the worthy cause behind the gongs.
One said on Twitter: “Good Morning Britain report on the Earthshot price event, after which Richard Madeley comments on how slim Kate is! Maybe a comment on the actual item reported on would have been good.”
Another added: “So all the talk about the environment and Earthshot and all Richard can speak of is the size of Kate’s waist! Typical! Try to focus, please.”
A third lamented: “Oh Richard, just say watching gmb, and I was horrified when I heard your comments about the size of Kate’s waist!
“My beautiful daughter has battled an eating disorder for 7 years, and comments like this can do so much damage. Maybe just comment on how beautiful she looked.”
However, others felt that incensed viewers should calm down.
One said: "All those who were triggered and complaining about @richardm56 comment about Kate Middleton's waist need to get a grip, there's enough shit going on in the world without bloody wokey lefties getting all upset about tv presenter’s faux pas."
Meanwhile, he seemed to confirm his I'm A Celebrity stint after slipping up live on air when Susanna appeared to catch him out.
He refused to rule out his appearance on the hit reality show after it was rumoured that he had signed up to enter the castle with this year's cohort of celebs.
The host said that ITV had told him to say he neither was nor wasn't starring in the show.
He then dropped a bombshell when he confessed that he'd had a medical, which is something celebrities need to have in order to enter the jungle – or in this year's case, castle.
