Riverdale season 4: Does FP Jones know the truth about Jughead’s death?

Riverdale season four has been a new chapter in some of the characters’ lives, including the town’s resident writer Jughead Jones (played by Cole Sprouse) who moved out and started attending Stonewall Prep. With all the usual drama taking place from his rivalry with classmate Brett Weston Wallis (Sean Depner), to his grandfather writing the Baxter Brothers book, Jughead hasn’t been seen at home with his family too often. So could dad FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) be silently suffering without Jughead in the Netflix and The CW drama and does he know the truth about what happened to his son?

Does FP Jones know the truth about Jughead’s death?

To pursue his dreams of becoming a writer, Jughead left his family home behind so he could study at prestigious school Stonewall Prep.

There has been plenty going on to keep him busy with the competition to become the next Baxter Brothers ghost writer and the mystery surrounding his teacher Mr Chipping’s (Samuel Stewart Witwer) suicide.

As the series has gone on, there have been fewer scenes with girlfriend Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and dad FP.

While Betty is taking their long-distance relationship in her stride, focusing on her own issues, has FP struggled with Jughead leaving home?

The actor behind the ex-Serpent believes his character has been.

  • Riverdale season 4: Which character has killed the most people?

Speaking at the 2019 New York Comic Con, Ulrich opened up about FP missing his son.

When asked about how FP feels when Jughead goes to Stonewall Prep, he said: “I think it really pushes him towards Archie and towards making sure he’s OK.

“I think that it’s a little bit of an empty nest syndrome.

“Jellybean (Trinity Likins) is there but because of the way, the amount of characters we have, there’s not a lot of writing there but when we do see her we do realise she is cut from the same cloth, she’s definitely a child of Gladys and FP, she’s starting to get into trouble.

He continued: “But I think there is something missing that I don’t think he ever expected he would feel.

“If you look back at season one, he didn’t even really want him around.

“So I guess it’s a little bit of ‘take something away and you will know what it is you wanted’.

“It’s interesting, I’ll be curious to see where it goes.”

His words suggest he could be in the dark about the fate of his son given Jughead has been away at school.

However, this could just be a misdirect and FP could be in on the whole thing.

While Jughead has been away at Stonewall Prep, we have seen a lot more of FP with Archie Andrews (KJ Apa).

As Dodger (Juan Riedinger) was causing issues for the redhead at his newly opened community centre, FP has been at hand to help him deal with the gang leader.

At the end of the first half of Riverdale, the pair fight Dodger and his gang, scaring them away from the town.

Following Fred Andrews’ (Luke Perry) death, FP has continued to look out for him on him on his old friend’s behalf.

We should expect to see more of FP and Archie in the second half of season four.

The first episode of 2020 will be called Varsity Blues and hopefully should be the start of viewers finding out more about Jughead’s “death” which has been teased since season three.

But we’ll most likely have to wait until the season finale to find out exactly what is in store for Jughead and the rest of the gang.

Riverdale season 4 continues on Thursday, January 23, on Netflix.
