Kate Garraway and Ruby Wax talk ‘Girls on Top’
Ruby Wax accused the BBC of axing her interview show in the 90s due to her age, telling Kate Garraway it was “Because I turned 50 and that’s not allowed.”
The 70-year-old, whose show was titled, When Ruby Wax Met…saw the comedian interviewing some big names including Donald Trump and Pamela Anderson.
However, during Kate Garraway’s Life Stories, Ruby discussed how she felt when her show was replaced by Louis Theroux’s series.
When chatting about Ruby’s career, Kate asked: “So why did the television shows dry up?
Ruby claimed: “Because I turned 50 and that’s not allowed.”

“So it was an age thing?” Kate probed to which Ruby replied: “Of course, and then there was a man who took my job, it’s not Louis Theroux who is a really nice man.
“And whoever I will not mention names said, ‘We want you to do a game show’ but I said I could be a really good interviewer and they said ‘uh uh’ so I left town.”
Express.co.uk has reached out to the BBC for comment.
Ruby admitted to blaming Louix for years, but she claimed she later learned she was axed by another television executive.

After her show was replaced, Ruby decided to take a different career path in raising awareness of mental health.
Elsewhere in the interview, Ruby chatted about growing up with strict parents to how she rose to fame.
The Good Morning Britain host beamed: “Things are going well for you, aren’t they?
“You’re in love, the careers going well. Let’s talk first of all about Girls on Top.
“What was it like with this newfound friendship that was developing between, you know, Dawn [French] and Jennifer [Saunders]?
“I mean, that is quite a comedy combination. What was that experience like for you?”
“It is like playing tennis with the greatest tennis player there is,” Ruby candidly replied. “But they were my friends too.
“That was my family. I was still young so they became my igloo that protected me, and I love them.”
Kate Garraway’s Life Stories airs tonight at 9pm on ITV.
