The Chase: Shaun Wallace takes aim at contestant’s singing
Shaun, 60, Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, 54, and Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, 62, have teamed up together for a new project away from The Chase studio. In a new ITV spin-off entitled The Chasers Road Trip: Trains, Brains and Automobiles, the three quizmasters travel the world to try and understand whether humans are as smart as we think. However, it seems The Dark Destroyer learnt a huge lesson when he tested his mental skill set against a child prodigy, a moment which left him rather embarrassed.
Although the trio venture all around the world for the new three-part series, it was here in the UK where they met their match.
The idea of testing their own skills against a child was to see what degree of intelligence is innate and whether it can be developed over time.
Facing their youngest opponents yet, it seems the three quizmasters will discover what they all possess in common which makes them so clever.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t a walk in the park for Shaun as he explained: “I think what they will find is that intelligence is not confined to human beings.
“There are different forms of intelligence, we looked at animal intelligence, we studied children’s intelligence.”

The Chaser continued: “And [viewers] will be fascinated in relation to how clever children can really be, especially at the age of 10, where your brain is most developed in terms of storing information.”
Describing the moment he was humiliated, the quizmaster said: “We came up against some child prodigies who really embarrassed us, which is good.”
However, it wasn’t just the minds of children which really shocked Shaun as he was surprised by the intelligence animals posses.
In the series, the trio arrives in America where they’re tested against Kanzi, a Bonobo ape, who can communicate with humans through the use of pictures and symbols.

They also meet a chimpanzee with an impeccable memory, an orangutan named Katie who can play video games and a dolphin.
Speaking of seeing another side to the animal kingdom, Shaun said: “What surprised me was how intelligent animals can be, especially if you prepare them and train them.
“As I was saying, when we looked at new intelligence found in chimpanzees and primates in general, I was surprised that they are only just a step down from us.
“If animals could communicate in a way that we could understand, it could be up there, I’m telling you,” he continued.

The Dark Destroyer added: “The only thing they can’t do, I suppose, is reason or articulate in a way that Homo sapiens can do.
“But if they could, and they could communicate, then their intelligence would be a force to be reckoned with,” Shaun said.
Asked if he had learnt anything new about himself, the quizmaster said: “I know that I am bright, but discovered that I’m clever in a different way to the other two, because there are different forms of intelligence, such as you have got emotional intelligence.
“You’ve got common sense, and I would like to think that I’ve got that in abundance,” the general knowledge guru shared.
“The mere fact that you may have an IQ of a million, it doesn’t make you any more superior to anyone else, because you have got to use your intellect in different ways, in different situations,” Shaun added.
“You have got to have that empathy, that’s just me, only in comparison to my companions,” he commented.
This latest spin-off comes as the infamous quiz show celebrates over a decade of being on viewers’ screens.
Beat the Chasers has just finished broadcasting its second series, with Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, 50, securing his own late-night quiz programme.
The Chasers Road Trip begins Thursday, January 21 at 9pm on ITV.
