Ashley Jensen ‘teases’ future series of Shetland
Shetland fans issued the same complaint minutes into the first episode of the cop drama.
Ashley Jensen made her debut as the show’s new detective after replacing Douglas Henshall, who played the iconic DI Jimmy Perez.
The Ugly Betty actress has taken on the role of DI Ruth Calder, who is forced to go back to where she grew up to solve a murder.
However, fans were quick to share their thoughts on the new lead detective, with many taking to social media.
While some were thrilled to see Ashley taking the lead, others admitted to missing Jimmy.

@ifeelflames tweeted: “So excited to have #Shetland back, gonna be weird without Jimmy though.”
@DeafinitelyHere echoed: “Happy that #Shetland is back but I’ll miss Douglas Henshall. I hope Jimmy is happy in retirement.”
@twychy12 went on: “#shetland looked forward to this but Agatha Raisen. It is putting me off can’t lie. But she’s a good actress and I’m sure after a while this is gonna wear off.” (sic)
@labennett64 stated: “Missing Perez already but will persevere #Shetland.”
“Not sure about this so far.#Shetland,” @Simo21537664 commented while another fan added: “I miss seeing Perez in the opening credits already #Shetland.”

@EveMoran15 was thrilled at the casting change as they wrote: “I do like Ashley Jensen. She’s very versatile. #shetland.”
The first episode of series eight saw DI Calder travelling back to Shetland to follow the trail of a vulnerable witness.
Tosh (Alison O’Donnell) was also on hand to help, but it seemed the duo had different methods when it came to solving the crime.
Witness Ellen Quinn (Maisie Norma Seaton) went on the run after stealing money that belonged to a gang of criminals.
However, it didn’t take the gangsters long to follow Ellen and they soon caught up with her on the Island.
Not only did DI Calder have the stress of solving the case, but it seemed the past caught up with her after bumping into her estranged brother and ex-boyfriend.
Speaking in a new interview on This Morning, Ashley addressed how viewers might react to her taking over from Douglas.
When referring to Douglas’ longevity as Jimmy Perez, she said: “Well he did, didn’t he? Well, that’s entirely up to the people and the audience, if they watch it and like it.”
Teasing her future on the series, the actress said: “Absolutely, listen I’ve got puffins to see up there and otters, I didn’t see anything.
“Everybody talked about this wildlife and every time it went cut and the cameras stopped rolling, everybody would literally be going, ‘Apparently there are otters in the sea today’, but I never saw anything.”
Shetland returns on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
