James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) has been riddled with guilt in Hollyoaks since he discovered that Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) was, in fact, not the person who murdered Harry Thompson (Parry Glasspool), as such a fact means that he had no justification for shooting The Dog landlady, but the guilt over this incident is the last thing on his mind in the coming episodes, as an unknown assailant seemingly discovers the truth and proceeds to blackmail him as a result.
Courtney (Amy Conachan) enquires if James is coming to Jesse’s (Luke Jerdy) funeral, but the solicitor doesn’t know how to respond — and he later informs Grace that he feels responsible for Jesse’s death, and therefore he doesn’t know if he can face it.
He ultimately decides against going to the service, but Grace shows up on the morning of said service and forces his hand. However, as the hearse arrives, Mercedes makes a beeline for James and informs him that she knows his secret — leaving him incredibly panicked.
Later, Courtney makes a speech, but James interrupts — telling her that she needs to know the truth. Will he come clean about how Jesse’s discovery is what ultimately led to his demise?
He escapes The Dog, but — in spite of his momentary reprieve — he later receives an anonymous note which states ‘I know you shot Mercedes.’
James analyses the letter, but he later discovers that Grace (Tamara Wall) has received one too, and they begin to panic.
The question is: who has discovered the truth?
One to watch: Monday 24 February at 7pm on E4.
