The rest of the country haven’t got a clue who attacked Ian Beale in EastEnders given the length of his enemy list but Adam Woodyatt has confirmed that Ian is ‘certain’ when he comes round who it was who wanted him left for dead.
Revealing that a name instantly crops up, Ian throws an accusation. But is he correct or is he underestimating how many people hate him?
Adam shared: ‘He believes he knows yes – straight away a name comes to mind but whether Ian is right is another matter. And let’s be honest, there seems to be quite a few people he has got on the wrong side recently.
‘I think Ian has been acting in the moment and not thinking about the consequences at all – or how he’s affecting people. Bigger things like buying The Vic with Max’s money had far more consideration on Ian’s part, but his love for Sharon far outweighed his business relationship with Max.
‘For Ian that was a sacrifice worth making – whether he did the right thing or not, then things have just snowballed from there!
‘With Ian just being plain awful to Stuart and Rainie there was absolutely no reason for him to stick his oar in other than being cantankerous. I don’t think Ian thought anything bad would happen to him at all, he felt pretty untouchable in spite of his awful behaviour.’
So could this attack change Ian’s ways? Adam is certain it will at least be food for thought when it comes to his future.
The actor mused: ‘What more of a wake up call could he need? As he realises that there are a fair few people lining up to hurt him – I think he’ll start to connect the dots and see that what he was brushing off as non-important, isolated incidents were actually all connected and his actions and comments really do hurt people.
‘Especially his family, who he does really care for – just has a very funny way of showing it when he’s dug himself into a hole!’

And he added that when he learns that his own family members are suspects in wanting him dead, it crushes his alter ego even more.
Adam sighed: ‘I think his family being considered suspects are the only ones that’ll really hit him hard eventually. Especially his sons whereas Ben, sadly, not so much – there’s a lot of animosity between the two of them.
‘With Bobby and Peter, if he finds that they’re both on the suspect list it would be devastating to him.’
