Emmerdale fans were all screaming at their televisions this evening as Charity Dingle made the huge mistake of kissing newcomer Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) – and it’s clear that Emma Atkins, while understanding where Charity’s paranoia is coming from, has little sympathy for her character.
Branding her move ‘pathetic’, Emma warned that the guilt over what she has done would consume Charity and cause her to ‘unravel’ – especially after the overwhelmingly good news that Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) has been given the all clear from cancer.
Addressing the moment of the kiss with Mackenzie, Emma explained: ‘Charity’s paranoia is almost at breaking point. It develops into anger and frustration during conversations with Tracy, whereby all Charity’s fears spill out.

‘There’s an explosive chemistry between Charity and Mackenzie that comes out of nowhere. It builds from the fact nobody will back down and accept fault as to who caused the accident.
‘So it’s a standoff. And before they know it, they’ve kissed. There’s a self destructive hedonistic approach from both of them, particularly Charity. She’s already resigned herself to think that her relationship with Vanessa is dead in the water. Much to her foolishness.’
Charity has let to confess the truth to Vanessa about what has happened – but Emma confirmed there is heartbreak on the way.

She sighed: ‘Charity is in total limbo land. She is now carrying this shameful, rather pathetic secret, that was born out of Charity’s ability to press the self destruct button all too quickly, before finding out the truth.
The sudden news that all is going to be ok with Vanessa’s health is too much for her to take. It’s mixed feelings of heaven and hell: Feeling elated and devastated at the same time.
‘And then the underlying deceit of what now? Do I keep this a secret? Charity’s world is set to unravel…
