James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) proved that Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) was very much still the one for him on Valentine’s Day in Hollyoaks, with an impromptu romantic proposal.
The lawyer, as viewers know, has refused to admit how he feels for Ste, despite it being very clear to everyone that he’s still very much in love with him.
Ste, in comparison, has been very vocal about how he feels about James, and just in case there was any doubt, he reiterated his feelings during Monday’s (February 13) first-look E4 edition of the Channel 4 soap, much to James’ shock.
James did a runner shortly afterwards, but not in the way you might’ve imagined. With Ste having put his cards firmly on the table, he decided that, in order to take a chance on love, he also had to be brave and admit how he felt, and therefore he showed up at The Dog during the Valentine’s fancy dress party and took to the stage.
Ste, meanwhile, was frustrated with James for previously walking out, and thus made his way to the door, but he was ultimately stopped in his tracks when his former beau revealed in a crowd full off people that he intended to propose!
‘I thought long and hard about whether I could be the man you needed me to be and then I went out and bought this’, he said, taking a ring out of his pocket, rendering Ste speechless.
‘You think I’m embarrassed to be with you? I’m not.
‘I am so proud to be with you, Ste. You’re the only person I could profess my love to in front of a room full of strangers in, frankly, bizarre fancy dress.
‘I love you and I don’t want to lose you again,’ concluded James, as he made his way down from the stage and got down on one knee. ‘Will you marry me?’.

Ste, overwhelmed and emotional, swiftly responded, confirming his answer to be yes, as the two embraced and shared a kiss to the very apt sound of Shania Twain’s You’re Still The one.
No, you’re crying.
Looks like you’d better go out and buy a hat, because there is a new and unmissable wedding to look forward to, and we can hardly wait.
Hollyoaks continues Tuesday February 14 at 7pm on E4 or stream the next episode from midnight on All4.
