The season three finale of Stranger Things saw Hopper (played by David Harbour) sacrifice himself in order to save the town of Hawkins and his adopted daughter Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Fans were devastated by his death but after Russian soldiers spoke of an “American” in a post-credits scene, viewers are certain he is still alive. Now another clue has surfaced.
The Netflix series is full of Easter Eggs and clues about what is to come and one fan thinks Hopper’s fate was revealed back in season one.
They pointed out the same song was playing when Hopper died and when Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) disappeared into the Upside Down.
Reddit user Nikowaza revealed: “I went back to start rewatch S1 after finishing S3 and noticed something interesting about the song choice they used when El was reading Hopper’s letter.
“The song played was “Heroes” by Peter Gabriel, and oddly enough was also used way back in S1E3 when the boys come up to the lake and see a dead kids body they think to be Will.

“However, as we know Will is actually alive in the Upside Down still.
“What if this song choice is a nod back to S1 and is giving us another hint that Hopper’s death isn’t real, but actually is still alive in the Upside Down as some have already speculated here?”
Will was rescued from the Upside Down in the season one finale but was haunted by the Mind Flayer in the last two instalments.
Could Hopper simply have been trapped in the Upside Down too or has he been transported somewhere else?
It seems no one really knows what has happened to the police chief including the writers, The Duffer Brothers.
Speaking on Late Night with Seth Meyers, actor David spoke to the showrunners to ask if his character really was dead.
They replied: “We’re still figuring it out.”
Earlier this week fans spotted another clue which alluded to Hopper’s fate teased by the Stranger Things writers room on Twitter.
They noticed the account had a small white-framed square with a black centre next to its name.

“What’s up with that square name?” one fan asked.
The writers room cryptically replied: “One last tease before the New Year.”
Could they have hinted it really is Hopper in the Russian prison with the teaser?
One fan guessed: “WAIT ALL THE CLOCKS- TIME. THE SQUARE. TIMES SQUARE. WE’RE NOT IN HAWKINS ANYMORE. WE’RE IN NEW YORK.”

Another added: “Are we getting a new year’s surprise like last year?”
A third continued: “It’s New York. The square represents Times Square- or at least that’s what everyone thinks.
“Plus in the trailer (I think it was, or it was the teaser), there was a part where it said, ‘we’re not in Hawkins anymore’.”
Hopefully as fans have predicted, the Stranger Things team will drop a big spoiler on New Year’s Eve – not too long to wait!
Stranger Things season 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix now.
