Stranger Things season three ended with major character Jim Hopper being killed off in a devastating explosion to close the gate to the Upside Down. There was some small hope he might be alive in a mid-credits scene showing how the Russians have an American prisoner in their possession. But has this be squashed by a new spoiler from the writers?
Has Hopper been confirmed dead by Stranger Things writers?
Fans were sent into turmoil earlier this week when the official Stranger Things writers account posted some news about Hopper’s fate in the upcoming season four.
In response to a fan’s request on Twitter for some information about the beloved character, the account @strangerwriters replied: “Hopper is gone.”

Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) was then forced to destroy the room he was in and seemingly him as well.
The show jumped forward a few months to show how the rest of the characters were dealing with his death in some particularly poignant scenes.
There was a sliver of hope delivered over whether he could still be alive when the show cut away to Kamchatka in Russia.

User @charlielarley replied: “How could you kill Hooper? That’s so wrong! Bring back Hopper!”
“Ok this tweet made me burst into tears for 45 minutes. You guys are mean,” added user @Jet2313.
However, some fans pointed out the important distinction in the tweet over how he is just ‘gone’ rather than dead.

This was could fit with the theory which emerged after the third season about how Hopper could in fact be in the Upside Down.
Some viewers suggested he could have been sucked into the alternate dimension when he was attempting to close the gate.
There have been a number of clues to support this idea since, including the Easter Egg filled teaser trailer.
