David, 49, and Nadiya, 30, joined Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two host Rylan Clark-Neal, 30, this evening having survived the dreaded dance off for the second time last weekend. As the pair spoke about the routine they will perform this Saturday on the BBC dance show, the sportsman struggled to keep his emotions in check, moments after his dancing partner spilled some details about his backstage antics.
The former footballer has now seen the back of James Cracknell, 47, and Anneka Rice, 60, after facing both the eliminated contestants in the dance off.
Having gained huge praise from the judges for their American Smooth during movie week, Rylan spoke to David and Nadiya about their journey on the show.
Turning to the professional dancer, the host asked: “Nadiya, is he enjoying the dancing now because I know you’ve been enjoying the experience.
“But I know week one, week two you were very focussed – winding yourself up almost a little bit trying to get those moves but now it seems like he’s really enjoying it?”

Nadiya went on the praise her celebrity partner, only to reveal what David claimed to be a backstage “secret”.
“He’s really enjoying it and I tell you, he’s not even using his notebook now,” the professional dancer remarked, which left the Strictly contestant in a state of shock.
“Don’t [say that]. That’s a secret,” the sportsman joked, to which Nadiya declared: “You never said it was a secret.
David confirmed he didn’t tell her his notes were a “secret” as the professional explained how the contestant is improving.
“He’s feeling the dance so when we started lat week doing our American Smooth, he was like, ‘Ok. I will just feel how the dance goes’.”
The book came into conversation once more later int he interview, as David told the host: “Nadiya touched on it there with the book, I wrote very step down, every angle and thought if I do it that way, then we’ll get through.
“Last week, no steps at all. This week, I opened up the book to show a blank page.
“If I feel the dance, I’m more in tune with it,” he revealed, before Rylan revealed the pair were going to be performing a Quickstep to From Now On from The Greatest Showman soundtrack.

Speaking about the personal connection he had with the song, David fought back the tears as he became emotional.
“That song itself for me, the lyrics in it are a bit of a metaphor in a way because having spent so much time away abroad.
“Especially to come back to England and see my family, it’s…” the contestant said as he started to choke up, before adding: “I’m not going to cry.”

“It’s only when I’ve seen the choreography from the movie I have to slap myself,” David commented as he became viably moved by his connection to the song.
The sportsman will be hoping to improve on his score once more this weekend, however, he is the hot favourite to be the next celebrity eliminated from the show.
According to latest odds from Coral bookmakers, the contestant is at 220-1 to win the Glitterball trophy later this year.
Coral spokesperson Harry Aitkenhead said: “David escaped again but he’s on thin ice. He’ll be favourite to go again next week and his odds of winning the show are nigh on impossible.”
Strictly Come Dancing 2019 continues Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
