Strictly Come Dancing backlash: BBC apologise over voting issue as fans slam show

Strictly Come Dancing was back as the celebrities hoped to impress the judges this evening to make it through to next weekend’s show. However, fans were left frustrated this evening as the show’s official Twitter account revealed there were some technical issues with the vote this evening.

Karim Zeroual was finally given a 10 from Craig Revel Horwood this evening after his Jive wowed the judges and saw him soar to the top of the leaderboard.

Kelvin Fletcher was not far behind with 39 points this evening as he impressed with his American Smooth inspired by Beauty and the Beast.

However, when it came to fans voting for their favourite act this evening, they were left annoyed after they encountered problems voting online.

The show’s Twitter account was forced to issue an apology this evening after fans reported difficulty voting online.

A tweet posted this evening read: “We are aware that there were some technical problems with the online vote this evening and apologise for that.

“The online vote is now working and voting will remain open until 9pm. #Strictly.

Some fans believed it was not fair that the vote would still stand.

One said: “How can the vote stand when there’s people all over Twitter saying they voted more than 3 times online? It’s no longer a fair vote.”

A second commented: “Major c**k-up in the #Strictly voting department tonight. They’ll have to extend it surely? #StrictlyComeDancing2019.”

“Hey @bbcstrictly looks like a glitch with online voting… says I’ve already voted but I haven’t… #strictly,” wrote a third.

Another added: “Definitely some issues with the #Strictly online vote. First it said it wasn’t open yet, then it said I’d reached my limit. Can imagine this will need fixing before the inevitable ‘furious fans’ and ‘fix’ claims start flying. I don’t envy the person tasked with sorting it #SCD.”

The show kept their voting opened for 20 minutes longer than usual in an attempt to resolve the issue.

However, some fans still complained about issues with the online system even after the others said the technical glitch had been fixed.

One fan wrote: “Still only managed to cast two votes, not 3 and being told I’ve used all my votes. I still need to add one more vote for Alex to get the three votes I am allowed. Please add an extra vote.”

Another echoed: “I managed 2 votes but then it remains saying I’ve reached max votes. Have refreshed many times.

“Even if it is working now, how many people will have given up and therefore not voted? And so many people on twitter stating they have voted multiple times online! Surely this cannot be fair???”

Some praised the broadcaster for quickly resolving the issue even though others continued to have problems casting their vote.

One stated: “Working now!! Thanks for finally fixing.”

A second wrote: “Same here, thanks for extending the voting time for everyone.”

A third fan joked: “Fair play, at least you haven’t done an I’m A Celebrity!”

The ITV show also admitted voting issues in yesterday’s programme as host Ant McPartlin revealed the app votes would not count due to an error.

Who will miss out on the show’s semi final as the final is now just two weeks away?
