Susanna Reid was surprised with an old school, puffy-haired throwback live on Good Morning Britain this morning.

The star is no stranger to the team on the show having a dig into the archives and showing clips of her time as a reporter on BBC Breakfast, but this new pic goes back even further to her school days.

Susanna winced as the photo of her in a green outfit appeared on the screen.

Taken during her time at St Paul’s Girls’ School back in the '70s, the faded photo showed Susanna with a blowout hairstyle as she stared at the camera.

"Ah, look at… I mean honestly,” she moaned, as she cringed at the pic. “That is not a school photograph you would ever want someone to keep in the archives, would you?"

Her co-anchor Adil Ray was a more complimentary though, and told her: “That hair is fabulous. Is that your school uniform?"

After revealing the school didn’t actually have a standard uniform for students, the news anchor quipped: “There was a lot of hair going on.”

Adil was surprised by the lack of uniform and called Susanna “radical” as a result.

The photo was shown amid a new debate about an independent girls’ school whose pupils have called for ‘head girl’ to be retitled to a more gender neutral ‘school captain’ or ‘head of school’.

The move has reportedly been slammed by the teachers at the school. According to The Times, the new names will be put in place at the beginning of the new school year at the £26,000 a year education establishment.

In response, the school said that while the ‘binary connotations’ were considered in the decision to remove the head girl title, it was also considered that the 18-year-olds didn’t want to be referred to as ‘girls’ as they become women.

“It was the suggestion of our senior students that we change the name from ‘Head Girl’ to ‘Head of School’ as more modern, age appropriate and inclusive. In doing so, we are returning to our roots,” the school statement read.

“From our very foundation in 1904 and for decades afterwards, the senior student was called ‘Head of the School’, so in making the change, we are confirming, not denying, our ethos and traditions.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
