In a pitstop at the Toronto Film Festival, SAG-AFTRA’s National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland revealed that the concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which is poised to open to $70M-$100M, has a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement.
Indiewire’s Anne Thompson, who was moderating the discussion, asked Crabtree-Ireland if he should be worried about this newfound success, which is bubbling at the box office.

He had a very polite response:
“Taylor and her team came to us. … The only way she could do it is the right way,” he said. “We’re excited for everyone to go see it.”
As Deadline mentioned, when the Taylor Swift, AMC distributed movie hits theaters on Oct. 13; she’s not on tour. So it won’t be a surprise to see any PR stunts on her behalf during the time the pic comes out.
Presales, we hear are well in excess of $50M at this point in time for the Taylor Swift concert film at the top three circuits per box office sources. That number has not been made official by AMC.
Many movies have shifted out of the way on the theatrical release calendar seeing the Taylor Swift concert film as a Marvel typhoon. One of the big tentpole shifts came from Universal’s The Exorcist reboot which was originally scheduled to open on Oct. 13, and now it’s going on Oct. 6.
Today, A24’s wide release of Priscilla moved from Oct. 27 to Nov. 3, which is the ‘last’ weekend of the Taylor Swift concert. ‘Last’ in that the word is out there that theater chains can play it longer.
