Agatha Christie’s classic The ABC Murders originally premiered in 2018 on BBC One but now it has made its way to Acorn TV. Hercule Poirot (played by John Malkovich) is back but this time he is older and wider with another investigation to solve when a series of sinister letters are brought to his attention. But will he be able to find out who the culprit is as well as their motive for sending them?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The ABC Murders.

Now retired, Poirot is meant to be taking a step back from detective work but when mysterious letters signed “ABC” are discovered to be connected to murder cases, he takes the investigation into his own hands.

During his investigation, he meets Lady Hermione Clarke (Tara Fitzgerald), a childless woman married to Sir Carmichael (Christopher Villiers), who adopts orphan Thora but the child starts to cause trouble for the couple.

She quickly becomes one of the suspects in The ABC Murders but is she really the one behind it all?

What was the hardest part of filming The ABC Murders?

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, actress Tara Fitzgerald, who most recently portrayed Lady Templemore in Belgravia, opened up about her time filming the show.

When asked about if there were any difficulties in filming, Fitzgerald commented on bringing the originality to the part.

Fitzgerald explained: “I guess as an actor, well I know I do, I have sort of in my mind stock ways of doing things.

“There’s a received way of playing certain characters, I suppose stereotypes that we know that we’re very familiar with and just trying to find something new.

“More personal to me so that it feels more authentic.”

Another element Fitzgerald found difficult on the set of a period drama was the costumes.

Fitzgerald continued: “The dresses themselves, they weigh a lot sometimes but it’s more the corsets.

“You’re basically carrying any weight that you’re wearing on the corset so the corset is key.

“They do a lot of the work for you in some ways because they force you to sit out and move in a particular way.

“So they do set the tone physically which is very useful but if they’re not fitted they’re painful!”

Starring alongside Fitzgerald in The ABC Murders include stars such as Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint, Broadchurch’s Andrew Buchan, Bridget Jones Diary’s Shirley Henderson and of course Hollywood A-lister Malkovich in the leading role.

Talking about the cast, Fitzgerald said: “We were a little band really, not John [Malkovich], he was separate understandably because he had so much to do.

“But the rest of us were kind of a little band, we had some lovely evenings, everyone got on very well.

“It seems like a different era, now thinking we weren’t socially distancing, we were sitting outside the local pub.”
