The Big Bang Theory blew $60k on flowers for season 12 finale

The Big Bang Theory bosses didn’t hold back their budget when it came to decorating the set for the show’s final episode and spent a casual $60k (£50k) on flowers alone.

The sitcom bowed out of our lives last year and the last chapter, titled The Stockholm Syndrome, saw Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) and Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) pick up a Nobel Prize.

While the beloved characters gave their enchanting acceptance speech, they stood in front of an extravagant floral backdrop that spared no expense, according to The Big Bang Theory production designer John Shaffner.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk about building the Symphony Hall replica for the hotly-anticipated episode, Scaffner told us: ‘The decor has always been the tradition of the Nobel Prize.

‘There’s a huge floral display that wraps around all behind where the orchestra would play and in front of where the choir would sing.

‘I designed a version of the florals and worked with the florist on this. She came in with her team and so we created a massive blanket of flowers and columns and things.

‘The flower budget on that surpassed the grandest wedding you can imagine. It was somewhere around $60,000 (£50,000) for the flowers.

‘And when I watched the final episode, you didn’t really see much of them!’

Although The Big Bang Theory forked out a lot of dough for the flowers, Shaffner admitted that it ‘probably wasn’t’ the most expensive episode made.

We’re wonder which chapter that might be…

The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Netflix in the UK.
