THE Big Bang Theory has been under intense scrutiny from fans since it was snapped up by Netflix.
The CBS sitcom wrapped earlier this year and ever since nostalgic viewers have been combing through old episodes for a dose of nerdy humour.
Unfortunately this has also lead to all manner of plot holes being flagged by the most eagle-eyed of fans.
The latest involves one of Sheldon Cooper’s (Jim Parsons) allergies.
The show regularly pokes fun at Howard for having to avoid all manner of animals and food because of his allergies and it subsequently transpires that Sheldon also has a severe cat allergy.
This is established in the show’s early series, yet in season 4 episode The Zazzy Substitution bosses seemed to overlook the adverse reaction.
In fact, Sheldon brings a whopping six cats to the apartment in a rare moment of spontaneity.
This should have turned Sheldon into a coughing, sneezing wreck, given the extent of his allergies.
And no in case you’re wondering, no, they weren’t hairless, hypoallergenic cats.
What’s more, bringing home pets in such a way is against the Roommate Agreement that Sheldon himself created and pedantically enforced, so it seems out of character for him to pull such a stunt.
Unsurprisingly the gaffe didn’t go unnoticed on social media as fans of the show chimed in with their thoughts.
“Okay so I’m watching old BBT and how the hell is Sheldon bringing home all these kitties when he knows damn well he and Leonard are allergic?!” one exasperated user asked.
“Lol either he is dosed up on antihistamine or the writers forgot, know what my money’s on,” another joked in response.
“I swear they do this all the time, create such complicated characters and then totally forget all their quirks,” a third chimed in.
While a fourth simply quipped: “Not seeing any allergic reactions,” alongside two eye emojis.
It’s not the only plot hole fans of the show have spotted in recent weeks.
Elsewhere, they noticed that Sheldon’s horoscope shifted from Taurus to Pisces halfway through the show.
Meanwhile Penny forgot her dad’s name, switching between Bob and Wyatt on separate visits.
The Big Bang Theory season 12 is available to stream on Netflix.
