The Chase viewers were left absolutely baffled by a contestant’s massive medical blunder during Monday’s show.

Fans of the ITV quiz show couldn’t contain themselves as Ben was asked: “Used in medicine as an anaesthetic, the drug sodium thiopental is claimed to make people do what?”

The options were ‘tell lies’, ’tell the truth’ or ‘tell jokes’.

And while he could be forgiven for not knowing what the drug was by its name, players were left stunned as Ben answered ‘tell jokes’.

The answer was tell the truth – and Ben was caught out by chaser Paul Sinha, AKA The Sinnerman, leaving just two players in the final chase.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their bafflement, with one writing: "An anaesthetic that makes people tell jokes?" with a cry-laughing emoji.

Another added: "Tell jokes? Is he having a laugh?"

And a third fan typed: "A joke drug?!"

Someone else explained: "It makes you drunk-feeling, hence you tell the truth because your inhibitions are lowered."

And someone else had clearly been on the sodium thiopental, laughing: "Tell jokes? Surely that's laughing gas?"

Poor Anna and Perry were unfortunately caught during the final chase, with Paul explaining that he could "take his time".

He did, however, compliment Anna on her technique, comparing her to fellow chaser The Beast: "That's what The Beast does. […] You're a genuine talent and we love seeing it!"

Anna just needed to refine her technique a little to be able to properly square up to the Chasers.

'Adorable' contestant Perry also had viewers giggling as the Welshman scooped £7,000 during his one-on-one chase.

"Perry seems like a really nice chap," one viewer commented.

And someone else wrote: "Perry is so animated. I love it!"

Another posted: "[Perry] is just genuinely happy to be there. The only one I believe that will have had a great day and mean it."

Paul had some viewers impressed – and others cringing – as he began rapping, prompting presenter Bradley Walsh to continue the trend.

During a celebrity special on Sunday, Good Morning Britain presenter Andi Peters was close to tears after he lost out on the high offer of £70,000 for his chosen charity.

The normally chirpy broadcaster confessed he "could cry" as he plumped for the higher offer after scoring £7,000 in the cash builder.

Poor Andi went home empty-handed, admitting to Brad: "You’ve got to give it a go."
