THE UMBRELLA Academy show’s boss has defended the supposed incestuous romance between Luther and Allison as “puppy love”.
Steve Blackman, who is the show runner on the series, has hit back at comments the two characters' relationship is wrong.
Allison, played by Emmy Raver-Lampman, who can make anyone do anything by ‘rumouring’ them, and ape-man Luther have a special bond.
In the Umbrella Academy, the two have grown up as siblings but their connection is intense and the lines are blurred between the brother and sister.
Some viewers find their love for one another problematic at worst and weird at best. They are technically siblings, at least in the legal sense of the term but definitely not biologically.
In an interview with Digital Spy, big boss Steve Blackman explained that they all know it’s slightly odd – as they grew up together – and the show itself acknowledges the unusual relationship.
He said: "I wanted to say to people, 'Look, they're not biological siblings, but yes, it's weird that they grew up together.
"But they didn't have a typical childhood."
He continued: "But, yes, are they siblings? Sort of. But they're also not biologically related, and there's such a puppy love story.
“You know, I don't know if it's real love. It might feel like real love to them. But it's sort of a kid love from growing up together, and beautiful moments from their past where they hung out together."
Despite feeling very strongly about each other, the adopted brother and sister have never acted on it.
Fans will have to wait to see if anything happens between the love birds in season three, if Netflix gives the show the green light.
In the meantime, satisfy your needs by streaming season one and two on Netflix now.
