Fans of The Walking Dead have enjoyed watching the unexpected bond grow between fan favourites Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reeds) and Lydia (Cassidy McClincy) this season. However, it was more than just the fans who were left teary eyed after Lydia opened up about her abusive mother.
Lydia has had a difficult life growing up in the apocalypse, being raised as a Whisperer by her mother Alpha (Samantha Morton).
Fans who have seen the early episodes of season 10 will know her backstory, and the tough unloving life she has had as a result of being the daughter of the leading Whisperer.
However, since being captured by the survivors she bonded the group, with Daryl being her new parental figure.
In episode four of the new season titled Silence The Whisperers, Daryl’s protective instincts really kicked in as she opened up about the abuse she suffered while growing up being brainwashed by Alpha.

Fans will know that Daryl also suffered an abusive childhood.
Recognising her scars, Daryl pulled her in for a hug.
However, according to “The Walking Dead Facts and Easter Eggs”, Cassidy wasn’t expecting this, and the moment left her feeling emotional in real life.
As a result, she had to walk away and take a break in order to compose herself after the director cut the scene.
