This Morning ‘holding on by skin of their teeth’ amid coronavirus outbreak

This Morning host Phillip Schofield has said he and the crew are "holding on by the skin of their teeth" to continue presenting the show amid the coronavirus outbreak.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread worldwide, with a jump in cases and deaths in the UK, measures are being taken to stop the spread going further.

BBC and other channels have halted production on several shows, Holby City and EastEnders the latest to stop filming and production with immediate effect, and until further notice.

This Morning is still going ahead live on ITV from the studio, with Phillip and co-host Holly Willoughby left uncertain as the days go on.

Playing it day-by-day, with the latest government and health advice changing things daily, the hosts were unsure they'd even be on Wednesday morning.

Speaking on the show, Phil admitted they were all hanging on by "the skin of their teeth" to keep the show going, with staff and guest shortages due to the outbreak.

Matthew Wright, a guest on the show, admitted there were huge measures in place to allow everyone to isolate.

Phillip told him in response to the news about EastEnders: "We're all holding on by the skin of our teeth."

Matthew then confessed he couldn't imagine the show going off air, but referenced the scaling back taking place.

He said: "Staffing has been scaled right back, we do our own make up… things are changing."

Yesterday saw Holly and Phil express severe doubts over the future of This Morning as the pandemic threw their presence on the air into question.

"Still here!" Phil joked, before Holly chimed in: "For now."

Still, they tried to make the best of a tough situation by wishing viewers a very happy St Patrick's Day, "normally such a lovely day, a big celebration."

Fellow ITV presenter Susanna Reid is currently self-isolating after her son exhibited symptoms, with The Apprentice boss Lord Sugar calling for her co-host Piers Morgan to do the same following contact with her.
