THIS Morning’s Alison Hammond will host a reboot of Wheel of Fortune — 19 years after the last episode.
The game show, initially hosted by Nicky Campbell, will be her first major solo gig.
It was an ITV hit when it aired between 1989 and 2001 and helped launch the career of Carol Smillie, who turned the puzzle board.
Alison, 45, shot to fame on Big Brother in 2002 then joined This Morning a year later.
A TV insider said: “Her profile has rocketed recently. She’s delivered some standout interviews.”
She has been at the centre of an apparent rift on This Morning after Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, both 60, were dropped from their usual Friday slot on the show. They will now be replaced by Alison, co-hosting with Dermot O’Leary, 47.
Axed This Morning host Ruth Langsford spoke out last week about reality stars getting “overnight jobs on telly”. Alison replied: “Strong people don’t put others down. They lift them up.”
She is filming a Wheel of Fortune pilot which could lead to a full series.
