Dermot took to Instagram to have his say, writing: "Evening all…

"A lot of people commenting about a reaction to a story we covered on This Morning about the 'Bodyguard' show and audience singing along.

"Could I politely urge anyone passing judgement on the clip to watch the whole interview…as I was actually arguing AGAINST people singing too loudly in theatres.

Radio host Chris Stark took to the comments to share his thoughts, joking: "It’s all your fault. I’d also like to blame you for the cost of living crisis, rising inflation and my current hangover…"

Other followers felt that Dermot shouldn't have to defend himself, writing: "Shouldn't have to explain yourself Dermot."

Another exclaimed: "Joy always sucked out of everything by folk who have issues with everything!"

However, other followers felt that Dermot wasn't being genuine, with one writing: "Didn’t seem like that when you were sat there laughing your head off…"

Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson weighed in on the row, commenting: "Weird take, and and a disappointing read if I’m honest. People, Don’t sing at all, at ANY volume when you’re watching musicals, unless it’s been okayed by the production.

"You’re there to be performed for, not performed with."

A third fumed: "You sat and laughed and giggled and belittled an entire industry, there should be no singing along, and you can’t even apologises just defend yourself. Not a good look really is it Dermot."

Alison, 48, sparked controversy on the show when she said: "I can’t believe it. I’d be devastated. I’m not even going to go to that show now,” regarding singing at theatre shows.

The star later issued an apology for the comments and referenced a performance of The Bodyguard in Manchester where police were called to an audience bust-up.

Both Dermot and Alison are off air this week, with Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle standing in for the pair on today's show.
